From School Library Journal
Grade 3-6-Pfiffner offers 29 projects (including a greeting card for each of the 11 featured seasonal holidays). Cards call for techniques such as stenciling, vegetable stamps, and basic cut and paste. The remaining activities range from stringing carrot necklaces (Valentine's Day), weaving paper placemats (Kwanzaa), cutting out plastic skull garlands (Halloween) to molding sugar ornaments (Christmas). The introductory section provides general directions; tips on how to get started; and a key to symbols used to indicate difficulty levels, the need for adult assistance, and ideas to expand or enhance the projects. Each section provides a brief paragraph explaining the historical background of the holiday. Black-and-white photos show the completed items; step-by-step numbered instructions are accompanied by line drawings. Adult interpretation may be necessary as the diagrams are not always sufficient to augment the text. Brief lists of environmental books and organizations are appended. A welcome addition to craft collections.
