This review is from: Earth Friendly Products Dishmate, Liquid Dishwashing Cleaner, Natural Grapefruit, 25 Ounces (Pack of 12) (Health and Beauty)
After trying many "eco-friendly" products, especially dish liquids, I was becoming very disappointed. I was so chemically sensitive, I would often feel bad for the rest of the day if I spent much time in contact. The skin does absorb the chemical ingredients. I eventually figured out that the SLS or SLES(anything with lauryl or laureth or similar terms) were the ingredients that were making me spacy and fatigued. And they are right in there in many of the so-called healthy alternative detergents!

One company, Seventh Generation, uses flowery, eco-obfuscating language; they never tell you that their product actually contains sodium laureth sulfate (similar in structure to sulfuric acid), the cheapest of sudsing agents, which is found in almost all "mainstream" personal care items; dish detergent, body wash, shampoo, etc.

When I went to their website to complain, they replied that they use "a mix of functional descriptions and specific ingredients on...labels", to "allow us to refine formulas without the expense of having to reprint labels with each refinement". And just try to uncover from their website, what the actual ingredients are. I am admittedly not a computer genius (read brain fog), but it took an unreasonable amount of digging to uncover the ingredient list.

The point of my review here for Dishmate Liquid is, after I found it to be so body friendly that I could have prolonged contact without sensitivity symptoms, I decided to try it as a body wash (my skin was irritable no matter what I used to wash it). It was great! I no longer felt "bad" after taking a shower. It was only a matter of time before I tried it as a shampoo and, surprise, it doesn't hurt your eyes (as gentle as a baby shampoo), and my hair is beautiful!

I no longer buy any soaps, body washes or shampoo. I add a few drops of essential oil to diluted Ultra Dishmate as a hand and body wash. I have recommended (and gifted) this liquid to anyone I know with allergy, chemical sensitivity, or skin problems.

The best part of this is, since I have minimized contact with major sources of irritation, the entire chemical sensitivity problem has become much less prominent in my life. This Dishmate Liquid has actually improved my life! Try this. It may be a change for you too!

We purchased a case of Planet Soap and Dishmate Grapefruit Soap. I purchased the Dishmate not because I was unhappy with Planet but because Amazon jacked up the price on Planet and it was cheaper to purchase in store so we tried Dishmate.

Dishmate really lacks in its ability to reduce surface tension (which is what soaps do). Comparing it to Planet, it really lacks in any ability to clean anything at all. We can seriously dilute Planet and it still works really well where as Dishmate at full strength lacks in any ability to clean anything. It does smell great and we use it as a hand soap instead.

I would suggest you buy a single bottle if you wish to try it out instead of investing in a case. I wouldn't recommend this product as a dishwashing soap because it doesn't do much. There are other all natural soaps that work much better.

Earth Friendly's Dishmate is a nice option if you wish to avoid conventional-style soaps. It was a pleasing grapefruit aroma, suds up nicely (though not as emphatically as your standard industrial-grade surfactant product) and rinses clean. We use it both for dishes (in the kitchen) and hands (in the bathroom). For the latter, you might want to dilute the product a bit, since I believe it's intended as a concentrated dish liquid.

I'm on my second case of this dish liquid and really love it. It's safe for people and the environment and it smells nice without being overpowering.

1.0 out of 5 stars Expensive because you use 10 times as much!, June 3, 2011

I wish I hadn't bought a whole case! How eco-friendly is it really if I have to use at least 10 times as much to do a sink load of dishes?

1.0 out of 5 stars A big disappointment, November 7, 2010
This review is from: Earth Friendly Products Dishmate, Liquid Dishwashing Cleaner, Natural Grapefruit, 25 Ounces (Pack of 12) (Health and Beauty)
Sorry to say I found this to be among the worst dishwashing liquids I have ever used. I decided to give it a try after reading some good reviews, and then finding it on sale. Yes, it is gentle on your hands as others have pointed out, but then so are most "natural" cleaners, compared to conventional ones. The problem is, it does not clean anything beyond crumbs or water glasses, unless you use 3-4 times as much as you normally would with just about any other dish soap. If you are dealing with greasy pots and pans, you literally have to squeeze more soap on the sponge after washing each item, if you want to cut the grease and actually get anything clean.

In one of the reviews I read, someone mentioned that using hot water makes this soap more effective. That would seem to be a lot more wasteful than using a much smaller amount of conventional soap with cool or lukewarm water. It would certainly be more expensive. It's possible that the hard water in my area is contributing to the poor results I am getting, but I can only compare this to other "natural" cleaners I have used with the same hard water, many of which have been much more effective. I will definitely not be repurchasing this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my favorite, September 1, 2011

I got this dishsoap because it was the best deal on Amazon. Now I know why. The soap is pretty weak and takes more than other brands to get the dishes clean. It IS all natural, so if that is important to you that would be a positive. To me, a better deal would be a stronger soap.

The packaging was also very poor and beat up. Every bottle was dented when it arrived (though thankfully none were leaking).

Back to Dawn for me.

Awful product. Barely makes bubbles. You have to use triple the amount to wash the same dish as you would a normal brand like Dawn or other leading liquids. If I could return it all I would in a heartbeat .
