I've read a lot of Steven's books and I really loved his Power Animal book, but this one has to be my favorite. It not only does he share with readers his bevy of knowledge of Shamanic wisdom -- he does it in a very conversational way where you feel like you're talking to a best a friend and he's sharing his journey with you. It's intimate and so full of wisdom for not only healing ourselves, but for healing others and the planet. It seems like author is using his background in psychology to be a real catalyst of change in a spiritual way that we can relate to!

I just finished reading Earth Magic and loved it. It is cram packed with interesting stories, experiences, suggestions and guidance for those of us wanting to work more closely with our planet. Steven Farmer is an exceptional author who not only writes well but really delivers on the content too. His work is well researched and documented and at the same time is highly engaging and entertaining. Because this book is so full of interesting information, I am certain that as it did for me, it will open new and fascinating pathways to you that you never anticipated. His caring and respect for the planet, humanity and lifelong learning is evident in this wonderful book.

I found this book to be a lot of fun, interesting, and very meaningful. I like Dr. Farmer's writing style, it is very easy to follow and comprehend. This book takes you to some interesting places and causes you to think outside the box that is for sure. I think it is an excellent follow up to his Animal Spirit books and cards, the book adds some deeper dimensions to some of these practices.

Earth magic is a great read, especially today with so much negativity and bad news out there. What I loved most was the concept that nature is constantly giving us messages. I really appreciated the different techniques and ways that Steven gives for asking for messages from spirit to come and be delivered by any animal. It made me appreciate my two cats even more ;)

This is a great book for anyone who is exploring the connection between a spiritual and an earthly life.
It enabled me to connect up many themes of this book and gives some informative ideas for healing for self and others, including the earth itself.

This is a good book, but I don't know if I would recommend it as an introductory book. It should be the one you read after a broader based book on Native American spirituality. It delves into meditative journey's and the like, which can be fun if you are able. I am too grounded for most of the techniques mentioned here in. Perhaps after more personal training and educating I will be able to reach the meditative realms that he speaks of in places other than my dream world.

I have read other books by steven farmer and this book is a summary of everything needed to make connections back to the core of self. I loved this book and will use it as a reference.

May be it is just my opinion but I wasn't satisfied by the way this text explained shamanism to the reader. I thought healing through shamanism is a much more difficult task than as it was presented here like it can be done by any body. The shamanic healer, unlike ordinary doctor where matter is mainly intellectual and experience, needs to go through a immense spiritual transformation to access SSC and other healing powers. Very less time was spent on how one can attain SSC. I am almost positive that SSC is not a drumming CD away. I am sure entering and traveling in SSC itself takes a whole book to explain.

Steven Farmer had written a great book that is very informational and helpful for those who seek balance and harmoney of self, and oneness with nature. The title can be a bit misleadeing, for some may believe the book is some form of mystic magic teaching, and not or spirituality and healing of shaman practice. But the book is very good, mainly for those who are of new age and those need spiritual guidances.

The real test of any set of ideas is do the techniques work? Yes, here. Other books that support this book's direction The Physics of Miracles: Tapping in to the Field of Consciousness Potential The Future Is Yours: Do Something About It! There is a Sufi story about moths, and the only moth that really understands the candle is the one who gives himself totally to the light, and the light gives itself to him. This applies to shamanic work. Shamanic techniques work from the larger self, especially in service to others. Shamanism means working with the subconscious, and at times superconscious minds. It cannot be apprehended by the conscious mind, the ego. Without service, many things just don't work, or work only slightly. Whispers of the Ancients: Native Tales for Teaching and Healing in Our Time gives you some idea of how very different native storytelling is, and stories shape the Universe. Indigenous life, for which these techniques go hand in glove, can be approximated from Journey to the Ancestral Self: The Native Lifeway Guide to Living in Harmony With Earth Mother, Book 1 (Bk.1) These are very good basic books, to getting out of the box of Western culture, into the much more fascinating 7 worlds of the spiritual traveller. Wong Kiew Kit's books on Chi Kung show how ideas like this survive in Chinese culture. Western culture is lost in the literal, and won't look at the deeper meanings of its stories. Neville Goddard has ideas on this, as one example among many. So do Joseph Murphy The Power of Your Subconscious Mind (Revised) and Max Freedom Long The Secret Science Behind Miracles.
