More About the Author

When I was six, my older sister brought home a deck of tarot cards. I took one look at them and fell in love. Around the same time, I heard (and loved) the Rolling Stones' version of Benny Spellman's song "Fortune Teller." Either or both of those experiences may have been what started my career. I have been a student of metaphysics and the magical arts ever since.

With so many anthropological books using a scholarly approach to understanding magical traditions of various cultures Judika Illes "Earth Mother Magic" is a welcomed addition for the practioner and novice alike. The book is concise, covering the essential aspects of ritual from birth, to dating, marriage, illness, aging and death. There are also cleansing rituals for spirits which lurk about the home and within us all. Earth Mother Magic is delightful and extends the understanding of African diasporic magic (a great deal of the spells and rituals are derived from traditional Hoodoo and Vodou practices), as well as traditions from Ancient Egypt and India, among other cultures. This book is an important addition to the bookshelves of students of the craft, priestesses, shamen and healers since it widens appreciation for magic drawn from the deep well of non-western belief systems.

What separates Judika Illes' wonderful metaphysical comprendium from similar books is the care, experience and authority she brings to her subject. Her goal is to empower us and she achieves this by allowing all of our senses to participate in magick. We see, touch, smell,taste,sense and enjoy all of Earth's bounty in order to enrich our own lives. According to her recipes, the elements of magick reside in our cupboards and gardens, as close to our experience as gathering a cup of rain.

Rich in historical lore and scholarly research, this book serves to educate a first time metaphysical seeker as well as to remind the long term practictioner that "As above, so below." There is something here for everyone, varying from spells to encourage prosperity to attracting the perfect mate. You feel, always, while reading these pages that the author is rooting for you, wishing you the best and joining with your efforts. That's the best magick there is.

Simply the best!!!!!!
I have read many many books on magic, and there is nothing like this.

If you are new to the craft - this may be the only book you will need - if you have been active for years - this is a great addtion to your collection.

Filled with history & "tried & true" spells, this book is a welcome surprise.
