Winner of the "Best SciFi/Fantasy 2005" prize of the San Diego Book Awards, Earth is Ours is an epic science fiction novel set on a world that aliens have stripped bare of technology. A self-aware, female computer and an American Indian man dying of old age must join forces for the sake of mutual survival, yet before they can battle the aliens, they must struggle against each other to determine who they will be jointly. Their conflict of minds gradually evolves toward tolerance, cooperation, and love - and they will need each other's full cooperation and strength to have a prayer of freeing the human race. An action-packed, fast-paced saga, presented alternately from the perspectives of the two heroes, Earth is Ours is highly recommended. A sequel, "Target Earth", is forthcoming.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for the Female Sci-Fi Lover!, December 6, 2009
This review is from: Earth is Ours (Paperback)
I love a good science fiction story, but most of the time it seems that they are written with the male audience in mind. "Earth Is Ours" is an exception. Mr. Babb has done a superb job writing a book that will appeal to both male and female! It is full of alien monsters, survival, battles and lots of suspense to appeal to the male, while at the same time, there are friendships and relationships that will appeal to the female. He has created characters with depth and personalities that are believable, lovable and sometimes downright playful, making them very realistic.

The two main characters, Levi and Amy, are an interesting "pair". Levi is an 80 year old Native American who wants revenge. Amy is a computer who has become self-aware. She finds a way to connect with a human, who happens to be Levi, and gives him the abilities to repay the aliens that have inhabited the earth. During this time, Amy and Levi become very fond of each other, and then fall in love. That love can never be real, as she is only a computer essence, and he is flesh and blood, or can it? The book is written from both Levi and Amy's point of view, and masterfully done, I might add.

The story also contains some sexual content, although not overly done, nor too graphic. In this story, it enhances the believability of Amy and Levi's relationship and how they both handle Amy being and essence instead of a "real woman". Because of the content, I would recommend this book for older teens and adults.

"Earth Is Ours" is an excellent read full of action, suspense, friendships and relationships where the most unlikely join together to work towards the common good. I had a hard time putting this one down, and look forward to reading book two of the four book series.

The publisher Authorhouse is a self publisher, print on demand company. Not that this necessarily speaks to the quality of the writing. "Earth is Ours" however is a simple book, written in a colloquial and juvenile style, with some errors. Here are a few example excerpts:

"His skills impressed even him. Levi could run faster than his horses, which surprised both him and the horses."
In a way, this works, I can see a horse galloping at 40mph thinking "wtf?" as a 6' 5" man sprints past him.

"They were approaching the lake and she wanted Levi to maintain a wide birth around the area."
'birth' (vs 'berth') is the sort of word that would be not flagged by a spell checker but would by one's publishing editor. A wide 'birth' is a hole [sic] other thing :)

Imagine Keanu Reeve trying to recite an Arthur C. Clarke novel from memory.

But I give this book 3 stars because it was entertaining. It's fun to read and I genuinely enjoyed it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alien Monsters Running Wild, March 22, 2008

Babb's simeons are scary as hell. They like to eat humans and aren't particular about how they do it. The battle scenes in Babb's book are easy to visualize. That's what I like about Earth is Ours. Amy has a few surprises for Levi as they get to know each other, and that's amusing, but when the humans overwhelm the simeons the book really starts to cook.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, January 30, 2007
This review is from: Earth Is Ours (Hardcover)
This book is amazing. It was so easy to fall in love with the characters and I was unable to put this book down as it seemed that I was there as the battle was raging. Gary Babb put great detail into this book. His ability to switch from the male perspective to the female perspective was interesting as well. Looking forward to reading Target Earth!!

Being a Terry Goodkind fan it is sometimes hard to read others.(just my opinion) but when i read Earth is Ours...i realized that there is another author with an open mind that can find a way to intergrade the male and female mind and make it work...Help them keep separate identities yet act as one....Earth as Ours takes fantasy one step farther and makes it work....Read and enjoy this author.....Babb's next book is just as exciting...take my word for it...read and enjoy...

What started as a desperate need to just give up and surrender to what seemed to be the hopless inevitable, soon turns to a bond between mind and spririt in a world where technology has been rendered useless.
I highly recommend "Earth is Ours" for both men and women. The action is non-stop and the characters are well defined. Its a novel of self-discovery beginning at the most basic emotional levels. Grief gives way to the rage of revenge, then a hope for the future that gives its all for the passion of love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing Plot, January 28, 2006
This review is from: Earth Is Ours (Paperback)
The author has created a unique approach in a work that combines action with sentiment. Science fiction fans will enjoy the struggle to save the earth from the invaders. The concept of AMY will be of interest to all female readers. I will be interested in reading more of the conflict begun in Earth Is Ours.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where's the sequal, November 18, 2005

This review is from: Earth Is Ours (Paperback)
The action in this story is non stop. The depth of the characters makes them jump to life on the pages. This book would make a fantastic movie. It demonstrates what the possiblities are if men and women could really become united as one. I think women will enjoy this book as much as I did. This author demonstrates a unique respect for women and seems to hold us in high esteem, he must have a wonderful Mother.
