About the Author
Stephen Marshak is Professor of Geology and Head of the Department of Geology at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University, an M.S. from the University of Arizona, and a B.A. from Cornell University. He has served as Chair of the Division of Structural Geology and Tectonics of the Geological Society of America. Dr. Marshak has written numerous research articles on topics in structural geology and tectonics, and has authored or co-authored three other books: Basic Methods of Structural Geology; Earth Structure: An Introduction to Structural Geology and Tectonics; and Essentials of Geology.

I bought this book to self teach the Earth History. There are so many colourfull and detailed figures or drawings, and only look at them, I could grasp the concept and was fascinated to read the text. Very enjoyable book. Farther, at the end of each chapter, a list of suggested read is attached, it's newest date is 2007.

Despite being a paperback, this is actually one of the heaviest books I've had to carry throughout my college years. I don't mind much though, as the book is a very good one. The contents are great and many, and can very easily be understood with the accompanying pictures and illustrations. This book is also a great reference for any papers concerning geologic processes or formations.

Definitely saved money buying on Amazon.com, but in the campus bookstore there was a supplemental workbook included in the package with the book.
