Read it with care and a great deal of skepticism,

This review is from: Earth in Upheaval (Mass Market Paperback)
When I read this book for the first time in the late seventies, I borrowed a copy from my chemistry professor. As he handed it to me, he gave me the advice, "Don't believe everything that you read." As I went through the book, it was clear that his advice was sound, for so much of what Velikovsky claims is possible only if the laws of chemistry and physics have been suspended for short periods of time.
There are anomalies in the geological and fossil records of the Earth, so there is much that science does not know or cannot yet explain. However, that in no way is evidence that the laws of chemistry and physics have ever been suspended in a manner that the claims of Velikovsky require. As scientists look outward at the heavens and dig ever deeper into the Earth, there is one constant, namely that the laws governing the behavior of matter have been locally unchanged for billions of years. For if that were not the case, the Earth and other planets could not exist in their present form. While some of the anomalies or issues raised by Velikovsky are interesting, it is difficult to accept his positions. Therefore, read the book with an open mind, but always understand that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
