I received this pot as a birthday present. The pot arrived quickly and in perfect condition.
I have used the pot a half dozen times or so and I've had great success with it. I read the earlier review and would definitely advise caution. I read several websites and several cook books on clay cooking before I used the pot for the first time.

Following the instructions on the websites and cookbooks, I soaked the pot completely for 4 hours in lukewarm water. Now every time I use it, I soak again for 15 minutes just before use. I use a heat diffuser and heat the pot very slowly. As I understand it, this is necessary for most clay pots.

It takes a bit of extra time but definitely worth it to save the clay pot.

The only reason I'm giving the product 4 instead of 5 stars are the instructions. The details are very sparse. (I think a sentence or two in English) So you'd have to go out of your way to learn about caring for the pot properly.

This pot is larger then it looks online, very nice surprise when receiving this pot, as alot of Asian cookware tends to be on the small side. Another plus that sets this pot aside from others of its kind is the included instructions, this is another rarity with cookware from other countries, usually there are either no instructions included or they are very vague. The included instruction sheet explains how to presoak the pot to ensure it doesn't leak or crack. It also advises you to cook rice or some type of porridge as your first dish before using it for other things. Very nice!

I have alot of different Asian cookware and serving pieces, as well as cookware, dishes and serving pieces from all over the world. We entertain and cook alot and like to prepare many types of food, 4 children love to have themed dinner nights, its really alot of fun, hubby an I have come to enjoy and look forward to this as well.

I have amassed my cache of International cookware from many different places, some through travel, gifts and many through the internet. Amazon and the World Market have become my most trusted and favorite places to order this type of item. I have been very pleased to date with everything of this type purchased here from Amazon, this pot being no exception.

I would recommend this pot for anyone who wants to experiment with or already likes to cook Asian cuisine or has been wanting an earth clay pot. I have also ordered another Earth clay pot from Amazon and am currently awaiting its arrival and hope to be as equally pleased with it.

It is larger than it looks in the picture, large enough to roast a whole meal for four people and nothing tastes better than a meal prepared in one of these pots!

This donabe pot is prettier than in the picture. I was surprised how heavy the box was. Very high quality, larger than I'd expected, wonderful construction.

LOVE THIS POT!!! I usually make Vietnamese porridge with this pot, but I've also tried braised pork and it turns out perfect every time! I would definitely invest in another one if something happened to this.

I purchased this pot at Mitsuwa in Chicago a few years ago. When my rice cooker died, I didn't want teflon, plastic, aluminium or stainless steel, it occurred to me, why not use a donabe clay pot to make rice? But I was worried that it wouldn't be as easy as a rice cooker. Well.... I couldn't be more wrong. It was just as easy AND my rice didn't stick to the bottom, bonus!

I typically put 1-2 cups uncooked rice in with 2-4 cups of water. I start the pot on a low heat setting and then after a few minutes, turn it to a medium setting. I boil off all the water, typically turning it down to the lowest setting near the end. If I feel unsure about how much water is left, I just turn it off entirely and let it sit for a while. Rice is really forgiving and will soak up the rest.

True, it's not quite as thoughtless as a rice cooker but it's pretty darn close. I got an even larger pot recently to cook up to 6-8 cups of rice! I highly recommend it as a substitution for conventional rice cookers.

I love this pot. It holds enough to feed about four people - maybe more if you have extra side dishes. I've made several different nabe's at this point and have had no trouble whatsoever. Great purchase.

I needed this size of pot.
I had small one. But that was small for us.
This is so nice.
