This book's incredible description of a peaceful, yet interesting garden along with its empowering fantasies like flying a magic car, or jumping to China in magic boots has quickly become an integral part of helping our 4.5 year old boy manage his "energy" - at bedtime AND throughout the day. Whenever we see that he's beginning to feel out of control, we now ask him if he'd like to take some time to rest and visit his garden or fly in his car. This garden is such a fun place to visit in his mind, that he often agrees. We don't even have to read the book at that moment - he just closes his eyes and remembers past adventures! A couple of minutes later, he's more balanced, relaxed and ready to play again.

The morning after we first read him the magic car "fantasy" (after a night of loud thunderstorms, when we usually find him hiding under the covers or in our bed), he said "Mommy! I went in my magic car and visited the thunderstorms! The guardian angel kept me safe and I got to see them up close - they weren't even scary! And then I flew through space and I...[he lists all the things he did]." So I've added this book to my list of "great books to give to parents".

As Maureen Garth's daughter, I am so delighted and amazed that my mother's books are still enabling people to use their imagination and help their children meditate, something which is so necessary in this hyped up society. Whenever I hear of someone being happy with the books that my mother created, it makes me ecstatic to know that her memory and good will lives on in the hearts of her readers after her passing almost 3.5 years ago. I can only hope that her teachings will continue to spread throughout the world as she would have hoped, and that she is still able to help people from where she now lies.

My child had problems sleeping in his own bed and night terrors before I purchased this book for him. After using these meditations with him for only 5 nights his problems were solved. He now asks for it everynight, and even gets upset if I can't read one to him. The meditations are simpily wonderful; they sooth, relax, and enchant him. I can't say enough good things about these. I only have two of them, but intend to purchase all of her books in the near future. I was very saddened to read of the authors death;it was clear from her introductions in the books and the meditations themselves that she was a very caring and loving soul who enjoyed the gift that she gave to so many children and adults.

I accidentally stumbled upon Maureen Garth's wonderful books for meditation with children. These books are little gems for nurturing feelings of warmth, peace, joy, creativity, imagination and relaxation in children, so necessary in today's fast paced world. My children will both be turning 4 next week and love to hear the meditations and we have just started! Our little girl (from China)has night terrors and restless nights plus has a difficult time in settling down for the night. Although she initially did not want to close her eyes to listen, she later asked me to tell her a little story and Voila! the little meditation I read to my son became the vehicle for her and I told it to her in my own words. That's the beauty of these little stories, you do not have to read them word for word or you can easily edit them if necessary. Maureen gives you the beautiful GIFT of the storyline to follow. My son loved the meditation about piloting the steamboat down the long winding river! I was disheartened to read the few negative reviews about these little books, because they certainly can be edited or re-worded for other faiths plus many of the meditations did not delve into faiths, but would spark a child's imagination (ex. the steamboat, being a color etc.). Thank you Maureen for sharing your gift. (To Ellen; So sorry to read about the loss of your mother. How blessed you were to have had her guiding presence and love in your life.) Betsy

I ordered this highly recommended book for my 8 year old daughter, who has been having a difficult time since [seeing traumatic world events]. Was I ever surprised to find that nearly one third of the chapters encompassed Christian topics (Christmas, Easter). We are a Jewish family, and I certainly would have expected to see this information included in the description of the book. Also, I must say, neither my daughter nor I found the book appealing in other ways--I think its really more appropriate for preschool aged children. (who are Christian!)

After experiencing a trauma, my daughter had difficulty falling asleep at night as she would imagine awful things in the quiet of the night. The wonderful images in Earthlight, as I read them to her, help her to create a peaceful and relaxing garden in her mind into which she can retreat whenever she feels fearful.

She looks forward to our meditations before bed each night now, instead of dreading bedtime! I am very thankful for Maureen Garth's work.

This is one of a 3 book set and they are all amazing. I use the books as a bedtime story for my daughter and I also use them as a relaxation/visualisation in my kids yoga classes. GREAT!

I bought this book for my 7 year old daughter. As I grew up without too many choiches as to my own spiritual path (my partents'religious way or big trouble),I wanted my daughter to find her own truths and thus I try and equip her with tools to enable her to make her own choiches. Earhlight radiates the love of the auther and fits wonderfully into the education of my precious "grown up in training".This little gem is however not only for children but can be a wonderfull starting point for those wanting to start meditating.The concept of medidation is seen as somewhat eastern/foreign and does not always sit comfortable in some religious circles.The book however does not promote any religious bias and will not offend anyone regardless of religious affiliation or belief systemn. Eartlight I believe will help to introduce parents unfimaliar with the process (or to remind the initiated) to the wonders of going inwards to solve problems; to provide them with the oportunity to pass onto their children a gift that will serve them throughout their chilhood for the rest of their life.In the process you can also have a lot of fun with your child and who knows find your inner playfull child again. The book is an easy read that is designed to be read/taught by the parent/caregiver or teacher to the child individualy or to a group of children and I believe will build self confidence in them.Truly one you should purchase and pass onto others too.Enjoy.

Our daughter(8) was having a hard time slowing down her mind in order to get to sleep even with no screen time after she went to school in the morning. She worried about EVERYTHING, likely or not (school problems, fires, other natural disasters). We first bought Starlight by this author and then this book for more meditations. Now she usually falls into a restful sleep either during the prelude or the short mediation that follows. She also is better able to get herself to sleep on the nights that something comes up and we can't get to reading the book.

I highly recommend it.

This is not a religious or spiritual book. It is simply guided imagery to help children and adults end the day on a good note. It is a great way to help students with guided imagery and their writing as well.
