Under rated axe meister!,

Being a huge fan of the "Master of the Stratocaster" Jimi Hendrix, I easily gravitated to the sounds of Robin Trower & Mahogany Rush in the early/mid 70's to fill the void. They were the closest to Jimi's spirit as you could get. Enter Uli Jon Roth, Scorpions axe man(where I first heard his playing on the Tokyo Tapes live album)and felt the Hendrix vibes throughout and then taken to the max on "Fly to the Rainbow". I picked up the "Earthquake" Electric Sun album back in '79 and was stunned by some of the best virtuoso and technical guitar playing I have heard in awhile. If you you love that Hendrix sound, Uli delivers the goods and puts a smile in your ears. From the opening track "Electric Sun" to the closing title track of "Earthquake" Uli Jon Roth paints a melodic soundscape of guitar "meisterwerk" that would influence the next crop of rock guitarists to come in the 80's. This album is an instant guitar hero classic and it takes you to another level. The only downside are the vocals but they'll grow on you and don't take away from his monster guitarwork. Keep your rap and alternative...and give me a real musician, a stratocaster and a stack of Marshalls and I'm one happy rock n roll camper! Rock On brothers!

Great diverse playing!,

When I first got this album on import vinyl in 1979 or so, I was looking for a great progressive acid rock sound and I got that and more! Since then it has been one of my favorite albums because of the quality of the musicianship and of the music itself. Today great rock is rarely found to be so diverse, from the poetic lyrics and hypnotic guitar work of "Japanese Dream" to the mind blowing molten feedback progressions of the title track. I have always respected Uli for his devotion to his music, and this album is true to form

IT'S BEEN 20 YEARS OR SO SINCE I LAST HEARD THIS RECORD, WHEN I FINALY GOT THE CD I PLAYED IT AND PURE BRILIANCE CAME FROM MY SPEAKERS ULI IS BY FAR THE MOST UNDER APPRECIATED GUITAR PLAYER IN THE WORLD HE IS ONE OF A KIND THE ONLY REASON I DID NOT GIVE THIS 5 STARS IS BECAUSE ULI NEEDS TO STICK TO THE GUITAR AND LEAVE THE VOCALS AT HOME EXCEPT ON POLAR NIGHTS AND DARK LADY FROM THE OLD SCORPS DAYS.

This is Uli's best work so far, the fact that he's doing solo gave him freedom in slashing that guitar - much more powerful than his Scorpion days! He's the modern day Jimi Hendrix ! Unfortunately, he should have chosen somebody else to sing .....Ronnie James Dio will be good candidate!

A GEM AMONG GUITAR ALBUMS,

COMING OUT OF SCORPIONS ULI SCORED HIS FIRST ALBUM WITH FLYING COLORS.THIS ALBUM WAS WAY MORE POULAR IN EUROPE. THE MUSIC IS A COME ACROSS SIMILARITIES OF HENDRIX, SCORPIONS, CLASSICAL AND SOME MORE HENDRIX. HIS VOCALS I FOUND ARE LUDICROUS. HE SOUNDS LIKE DEXTER FROM THE CARTOON SERIES SINGING BUT IT GROWS ON YOU. IT'S GREAT FOR FANS OF RAINBOW, SCORPIONS, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN AND STEVE VAI. STEVE AND YNGWIE BORROWED A LOT FROM THIS MASTER. THE FIRST TRACK IS THE BEST SONG. HIS SOLOS ARE SOPHISTICATED WITH SOME GERMAN SOUL. THIS IS A GEM FOR GUITAR PLAYERS INTO THE LATE 70'S METAL SCENE.

It's amazing that I can give this album 5 stars even with the sub-par vocals of ULI ROTH. He is probably still the best all around musician and may be one of the greatest guitarist to breathe. Any fan of his should hear this cd. Unbelievable guitar work just like the previous records with the scorpions, only with a different feel to the songs. I bought this record as part of the 3 cd set 'from here to eternity'. A must for ULI fans.

I first got this album in 1978 when it was originally released on vinyl. This one with Scorpions' "Fly To The Rainbow" are two of the greatest rock albums ever released! I love what Uli does here in comparison to Jimi Hendrix's "Midnight Lightning" and "Cry of Love". Another good comparison? "Theme From Jack Johnson" from Miles Davis' "Agharta" album...Try it on Japanese! Try them all on Japanese! This is what makes life great, especially if you love jamming! I love Uli's playing here as much as I love Michael Schenker's collaboration with Uli on "Fly to the Rainbow" and his greatness on "Lovedrive"! This is real rock in true form as it is meant to be heard!
