4.0 out of 5 stars Bill Nye rocks? May 20, 2009
Bill Nye is extremely helpful in having children enjoy learning science. I am a 5th grade teacher and bought the set for my classroom and will give it to my grandchildren when I retire.
I would have enjoyed choosing which videos came since I also need "Rocks and Minerals" and could have eliminated or exchanged one or possibly two.

It appears this listing is $899 for 20 episodes of Bill Nye the Science Guy. You can get all 100 episodes from Disney for $999. If you are serious about spending this kind of money, just go to Disney spend the extra $100 and get 5 times the product.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's really 20 episodes, and we love it. November 4, 2012
Each DVD has two episodes, so the 10-disc set actually comprises 20 episodes. This makes the price for the set much more reasonable, since most of the single-disc sales are only for one episode. If you know you like Bill Nye, this is definitely the way to buy them. We started watching these when my son was 4 or 5 years old. He was too young to grasp some of the concepts at that time, but he still enjoyed the slap-sticky style of Bill Nye. Now he is 7, and he knows by heart most of what Bill Nye taught. We continue to pick up the remaining episodes that are't included in our sets, and I expect that my son will continue to watch them for several more years.

It is true that these are a blend of education and entertainment, but I think that makes them better, not worse. My son is much more likely to watch these than to watch our other educational discs, and that's because Bill Nye makes science so fun. And, at seven years old, my son can rattle off Newton's Laws of Motion without hesitation, so there is plenty of education in these videos. I strongly disagree with the idea that these aren't educational enough. They are meant for kids, so they are introductory. But these are definitely educational, and they have been great inspiration to get my son doing his own experiments at home.

If you don't want to buy these, many libraries carry the Bill Nye collection. But if you do plan to buy them, the sets are much more economical than buying the individual episodes.

4.0 out of 5 stars too expensive, but if the kids love it, i'll pay January 20, 2014
I asked the 6th grade teachers at a local school in a disadvantaged area what I could buy for their classrooms that might help inspire kids to pursue careers in math or science. They asked for these DVDs and requested three good quality microscopes for each classroom.

After gulping a few times at the cost involved, I had Amazon ship it all to them. I soon got a huge envelope filled with nearly 100 of the most adorable, colorful and original thank-you cards imaginable. Most of these children have English as a second language, so their phrasing was particularly charming.

I feel pissed off that "Bill Nye, who portrays himself as such a lovable scamp, can't sell his many products at cost -- or with a more reasonable markup. Isn't he rich enough already?

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great deal, 2 episodes per DVD. October 4, 2013
Verified Purchase
These were exactly as described and arrived brand new in the original packaging. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching these shows again with my kids. By the way, there are 2 episodes per DVD, so you get 20 shows actually. Which is great bang for the buck when compared to other Bill Nye sets.
