5.0 out of 5 stars Its been 3.5 years but its been worth the wait
First off I should mention that this CD set justifies its already low price tag with the 2nd CD alone. The 2nd CD, whose tracks have not been listed, is a live set from the Starland Ballroom. As I said, this CD alone was worth the price. The track list is great, reminding people that while God Forbid's sound has changed a bit over the years, its been a matter of...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's worth it for the Live CD, but the new material could be better!
I purchased this album the day it was released in anticipation of the awesomeness to be the follow up to Constitution of Treason. I listened to it once, twice, ten times hoping that it would get better, but it didn't. I will continue to listen to it I'm sure.

I really like their subject matter for their lyrics, but as for the music itself it sounds like...

First off I should mention that this CD set justifies its already low price tag with the 2nd CD alone. The 2nd CD, whose tracks have not been listed, is a live set from the Starland Ballroom. As I said, this CD alone was worth the price. The track list is great, reminding people that while God Forbid's sound has changed a bit over the years, its been a matter of progression & evolution, not selling out or losing creativity. Far from it. The sound quality is excellent, and most importantly, the songs sound incredible live, possibly better than the studio versions in some ways. (raw energy, etc)

That being said, the new material is excellent. It took a little time to get into one or two songs, but that's neither a complaint or a criticism. I was hoping for some songs along the lines of Broken Promise and Crucify Your Beliefs (though The New Clear comes very close)

On a side note, the album art is great. A little too much Photoshop in the liner notes, but the cover itself is great.

This is DEFINITELY worth an immediate purchase. Don't download it unless you're getting the live set as well. If the live set isn't included then just buy the CD set. Its a few bucks more, but well worth the investment.

This is Definitely going to be one of the best metal albums of 2009. Very good song writing, cool riffs and good vocals. The highlights for me are the epic title song and the song named 'Gaia (The Vultures)'.

Highly recommended for metalcore and melodic death metal fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars best yet!, February 26, 2009

this album just shows how much more then metal genre can expand and progress. god forbid has the talent of putting feeling and emotion into metal. at the same time, they keep the songs progressive and artistic.

i always thought progression in metal would solely come from the instruments, but this album shows just how much the vocal melodies can really make a great song better. dallas' singing really adds a symphonic element to the songs.

as always doc coyle's solos are epic and memorable.

my favorite song right now is probably "walk alone" and "empire of the gun."

check out [....]review. they gave it 9.5 out of 10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Apex of American Heavy Metal?, May 24, 2009

I bought this CD in anticipation of the upcoming Mayhem Fest tour, wow! This band is blowing me away...it's like they combine the things I like about all the current popular genres of metal into something very blended but still unique in that I've heard no other band nail what is essentially something like...Progressive Melodic Death Swedish-influenced American Metal??

The influences of Sweden's best metal bands are clear in the melodic guitars and sweeping highs and lows, progressive song structure stands out, and yet they make clear they can get aggressive enough to make Pantera and Lamb of God proud..on top of all this, it's clear they are a very intelligent band, with lyrics that are actually meaningful and striking.

I can't get over how good this band is!

Oh, and the amazing guitar player has one of the coolest names ever: Doc Coyle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Metal Album!, January 2, 2010

God Forbid just never seem to disappoint. I have beeen a fan since 2004's 'Gone Forever'. All I can say is they are consistent with writing good, raw, and catchy metal. 'Earthsblood' lives up to those expectations, and then some. The CD starts with a bang, and opens with a really great first handful of songs. That doesn't seem to let up until about midway through the album with "the new clear" which is a new approach for the band. It really builds up nicely with some clear vocals, and kicks your a$$. Very catchy song! The rest of the album is great as well. Overall, you can pretty much just play this from beginning to end. I just love the balance of clear/screaming vocals. Things really stay interesting, and seem to keep you guessing in a lot of places. Not the typical verse/chorus/verse etc. I would have to say this might be my new favorite after all the months of absorbing this into my brain. I am really bummed after how great this album is, Dallas Coyle decides to quit. I really hope it doesn't compromise the future greatness God Forbid is capable of.

5.0 out of 5 stars metal, in its purest form, August 13, 2009
This review is from: Earth's Blood (Bonus CD) (Audio CD)
I'm not even going to pretend that anything that I have to say, hasn't already been said before in one form or another, so I'm going to keep this one short and sweet.

God Forbid has done it again.

Take the brutality of IV: Constitution of Treason, the lyrical kick-assery of Gone Forever, and well... pretty much every good thing from all of their albums. Now crank it up by a factor of a hundred million, pick one, and you've pretty much got Earthsblood in a nutshell.

I'm not going to tell you that there are any bad songs on Earthsblood, because there aren't any. Some of them don't have as much impact as others, but all of them will most certainly rock their faces off. If you want to listen to a couple of good preview songs before picking up the entire Earthsblood album, though, I would recommend either going with "Empire of the Gun" or "Bat the Angels", as both of them aren't too "hardcore" and yet at the same time, will definitely sate your taste for kick-ass metal.

One last thing: I would be remiss if I didn't mention the bonus disc that comes with (I believe) all copies of Earthsblood. It's a live CD, of a set that God Forbid played at Starland, New Jersey (at the Starland Ballroom) on their Chains of Humanity tour. The live quality is absolutely amazing, and there were quite a few times when I wondered if the product that I was listening to, was an actual studio album. That's how great the quality is on Live at the Starland Ballroom. And their song selection spans all four albums (the set was recorded before Earthsblood's release), which means you're getting the best of all worlds, including their singles "Lonely Dead," "To the Fallen Hero," and "The End of the World."

So. If you find yourself tiring of the boring, predictable metal these days, and want a way to just get away from it all, might I suggest God Forbid? Earthsblood is everything that a metal album should have- and none of the bad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Complex metal... excellent album!! ,l..l ., July 27, 2009

Awesome record... very complex, perfectly performed and not easy to digest (which is good!). These guys know what they are doing, and do not follow mainstream formulas.
I can not say this is better than Constitution... it's just a another excellent album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Fantastic Release, June 3, 2009
By
This review is from: Earth's Blood (Bonus CD) (Audio CD)
After four long years, God Forbid have once again returned with another amazingly blistering melodic thrash metal assault with their latest release Earthsblood. This new album just rips, shreds and kills everything in it's path and never even lets up, it's just fantastic. I've been a big fan of God Forbid ever since I first listened to Gone Forever (2004) and it really blew me out of my seat. The following release IV: Constitution of Treason (2005) was an even more better album and it showed the band growing and evolving musically. These guys are definately one of the best bands in metal today, they just continue to get better and grow with each album, and this new album proves that. Everything on Earthsblood is just amazing. The lyrics are fantastic, and of course everybody is in top form here. Byron Davis's vocals are outstanding, his screams are brutal, nasty and vicious and his clean melodic singing is awesome as well. Brother Doc and Dallas Coyle's dual guitarwork is absolutely amazing throughout here. The riffs are ferocious, sick and crushing, and the solos are ripping and amazing as always. The rhythm section of bassist John Outcalt and drummer Corey Pierce is just absolutely punishing and unrelenting throughout, especially with Corey's drumming which is just awesome, and he really rips on the double bass like a mad man. This album is so full of huge blistering highlights on here including "War of Attrition" which is my personal favorite that features some awesome death metal style grooves as well as vicious screams, heavy scorching riffs and ripping double bass drumwork. "Empire of the Gun" is anohter big highlight that features a nice ripping solo along with awesome chugging riffage, hard, hefty pounding drums and more great vocals to boot. I also like "The Rain" and "Shallow" (the latter mentioned song is highlighted by a brutally mean opening mid-paced riff assault and then around 2:35, the song turns into a menacing in your face thrashing onslaught, and we also have a pair of great solos by Peter Joseph and Patrick Pintavalle from The Absence). Another favorite of mine "Walk Alone" is highlighted by more excellent riffage, drumming and vocals, as well as some more great solo sections including an awesome melodic solo section near the end. The title track "Earthsblood" and "Gaia (The Vultures)" are both beautifully crafted epics with the former track featuring more great solo breaks including an awesome guest solo by Darkest Hour lead shredder Kris Norris. Overall, Earthsblood is another fantastic offering from God Forbid, and it's also one of my favorite new albums of 2009 as well. It proves that God Forbid just keep getting better and better with every album, you just know what they're going to come up with next. I highly recommend this album to fans of God Forbid, metal, thrash metal, metalcore, and even melodic death metal as well. Buy it now!!

Dudes, this album is great. Many have called this album a sell-out, or repetitive Metalcore B.S., but that is all nonsense. The writing is brilliant, along with interesting and very symbolic lyrics.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad, but Still Listening, March 8, 2009
This review is from: Earth's Blood (Bonus CD) (Audio CD)
God Forbid is one of my favorite bands, one of the few out there not afraid to be themselves and make some damn good music. This album features the heaviest song I have ever heard from them, that is War of Attrition, reminiscient of Determination and beyond showcasing their incredible skill. Unfortunately the rest of this album doesnt match, now thats not a bad thing, the album still rocks, but i really wish the whole album could have been as great as that one song. True their are songs that begin with that heaviness, or in the song somewhere, but true to God Forbid form they dont make the same song twice. Definitely a great album a little to slow for me at times, especially toward the end of the album, hoestly if i could i would rate it a 3-5, cause its hard to rate these cds so close to buying it, mostly because this is a band hard to understand at first, but the more you listen the more addictive it gets. One last note, who is the idiot who is listed as Chad Kroegers #1 fan, and buying a God Forbid CD, what an idiot, seriously if i listen to Backstreet boys than bought a Machine Head CD, i would assume i prolly wouldnt like it, not to mention right a friggin' review for it. This kid was obviously dropped on his head quite a bit when he was a toddler. BTW #1 fan, Limp Bizkit sucks, they sucked back in the ninties and they suck even harder today, even tho that cant possibly be true because that band doesnt even exist anymore, jeez, i swear if this countrys intelligence keeps declining at this rate we really are F*&#ed.
