3.0 out of 5 stars Earthtime, Moontime, Sacred Time for us!
A facinating book about the phases of the moon and how they relate to us in our lives. The back of the book has a chart that desinates which of the thirteen moons ruled at the time of your birth. 4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Guidance for Practical Application, January 5, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Earthtime Moontime: Rediscovering the Sacred Lunar Year (Paperback)
In Earth Time, Moon Time, Annette Hinshaw thoroughly explores and explains the meaning of each moon cycle and Sabbat in relation to life tasks consistent with the Wheel of the Year. Ms. Hinshaw provides specific questions to assist in spiritual growth and planning for each cycle. Ms. Hinshaw's presentation of the material is at times complicated and challenging to grasp. Rather than being read all at once, it should instead be used as a meditation and devotional guide in accordance with the Wheel of the Year. One can begin by reading the chapter that refers to the current time of year, taking the time to do the exercises at the end of the chapter. The reader could move through the book as they move through the year. Since the chapters are undated, the book can be used year after year as a valuable tool for spiritual growth.

3.0 out of 5 stars Earthtime, Moontime, Sacred Time for us!, December 30, 1999
This review is from: Earthtime Moontime: Rediscovering the Sacred Lunar Year (Paperback)
A facinating book about the phases of the moon and how they relate to us in our lives. The back of the book has a chart that desinates which of the thirteen moons ruled at the time of your birth. You can then read about that moon which has been assigned it's own chapter. Each moon discusses the goddess energies related to it, related energies, manifesting with those energies, the challenges of living with those energies, self-discovery journal for those born under that moon, and more. As you can tell it is very intense discussion.

Using this knowledge you can use the journal exercises to explore your own connection to the earth and to the wheel of the year. Learn to live in harmony with the Mother and life cycles. Recommended for students of the Craft who want to expand their horizons and begin to incorporate their spirituality into their lives as our ancestors did so very long ago!

5.0 out of 5 stars Radiant, November 30, 1999
By
Kareth Bodman (Tulsa, Oklahoma) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Earthtime Moontime: Rediscovering the Sacred Lunar Year (Paperback)
Annette Hinshaw demonstrates how a fine mind can compile multitudes of information and hone the information into useful tools for 'everywoman'.

EARTHTIME MOONTIME, (ETMT), is at once an insightful and delightful application of concepts about reconnecting the self with nature. ETMT introduces ideas from the mundane to the spiritual in order to keep the self in synchronization with nature.

ETMT challenges the inquisitive reader to use new eyes when looking at the world. The author uses the earth as Mother, to teach that aligning ourselves with a lunar calendar and lunar wisdom will bring a balance to our solar experience of the world.

ETMT uses a scholarly approach to introducing the lunar calendar and how it operates. ETMT covers the history of calendar development, touches on the cosmology of the universe, and discusses the mythic facets of divine essence. The author brings solid definitions to the polarites of human nature and an evocative, rather than definitive look at self-knowledge.

Chapters are well organized and the reader will enjoy the engaging technique of the author. Chapters include: stages of the moon, seasonal festivals, moods of the lumination, states of the earth at each moon fall, image, reflection, and related energies.

The author considerately gives the reader a suggestion of keeping a self-discovery journal and provides questions that will provoke the reader to develop one's own insight for development.

ETMT is an excellent read for anyone on a path of self-discovery. Annette Hinshaw is a name to be aware of, her vision of the future is radiant. Enjoy

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes you go hum-m-m-m, December 17, 1999
This review is from: Earthtime Moontime: Rediscovering the Sacred Lunar Year (Paperback)
This book is simply about time, but there is nothing simple about the thought and research that went into it. This is a book that will make some say, "Hu-u-u-m-m-m," in wonderment and others say, "Wow!" But no matter which a person says, it will undeniably capture and hold the attention as well as make one think. The premise set forth in the book is so reasonable as to seem simple. It is, simply, the story of the Earth through the seasons. It is also a story of human experience and how our human experience correlates to what the Earth is experiencing. And as with all human stories, it cannot be simple. But it is simply fascinating.

After reading the book you will be compelled to use the charts in the appendix to compare and contrast your own life events to the effects of the moon phases. And again will find yourself saying, "H-u-m-m-m!" But this time it will be in thoughtfulness and perhaps amazement that no one seems to have put this all together so skillfully before.

A delightfully intriguing book with some wicked bits of subtle humor, which provide as good a mirror of the author's keen intelligence as is possible.

The highest praise I can give a book is "It's a good read." This one is.

A delightful book! Makes one slow down and think seasonally, in tune with the natural movements of moon and sun. I use it as an introspective or meditational aid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book that provides info not seen in other Pagan books., September 18, 1999

Annette's book really presents some information that I have yet to see in other books. Her material is written in a manner that is straight-forward and easy to read. Her ideas are well thought out, yet conversational, as if you are there talking with her about the subject. Get this book if you want something other than the regular Pagan mish-mash.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magick in the Moonlight, September 19, 2006
This review is from: Earthtime Moontime: Rediscovering the Sacred Lunar Year (Paperback)
It is sad that this book is no longer being printed but it is wonderful to know that it is still available for purchase. This book is pure magick. No, it's not a scientific treatise about the gravitational pull of the moon and the impact on frogs in Thailand (as some reviewers seem to feel it should have been) but is instead a spiritual walk with the beautiful moon in all of her glory.

The author writes wonderful prose that draws you in and makes you want to read this book from cover to cover. Although the author has already crossed over, I feel her strength and energy every time I hold this lovely book in my hands.

I collect books on moonlore and this one is great. Ms Hinshaw knows her subject well and bings the reader right into the discussion with her. I'm 18 an have a large library of metaphysical books but this one I carry with me because it is a very useful tool for getting to know yourself and others.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not all that special..., December 16, 2004
This review is from: Earthtime Moontime: Rediscovering the Sacred Lunar Year (Paperback)
The book sounded a great deal more complex and informative than it actually is. I was left wanting more. If you're simply looking for a soft, feel-good type book then this should be fine. If you're looking for a better understanding of how Time, Earth, Moon and humans interact...look elsewhere.
