5.0 out of 5 stars Love this little guy
I live in a condo community, have a small yard and a small "common" front yard so I didn't want a big spreader. I bought another brand that is green which failed to work well. This spreader was so easy to use and worked very well. I would recommend this to anyone with small areas to cover - easy to use, easy to load and spreads evenly. If mine died, I would buy another...

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than the alternatives
This is the third hand-held spreader I've tried in the last month, and it is much better than the competition. In trying to spread a bag of Ironite on my lawn, two other brands which will remain nameless (one green, the other yellow, you will see them both in a certain home supply big-box store) jammed constantly, and eventually broke. This one would occasionally have...

I was trying to figure out how to spread wildflower seeds, which are spread at a very low rate, much to low for any settings on my normal broadcast spreader. I saw this on Amazon and thought it looked to be worth a try. The adjustments proved to be easy, and after a bit of experimentation, the spreading of the seed proved to be very easy. It is easy to clean, since it is all plastic. I found a real useful tool!

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than the alternatives, April 26, 2010

This is the third hand-held spreader I've tried in the last month, and it is much better than the competition. In trying to spread a bag of Ironite on my lawn, two other brands which will remain nameless (one green, the other yellow, you will see them both in a certain home supply big-box store) jammed constantly, and eventually broke. This one would occasionally have trouble starting to spread (if granules were on/around the spreader wheel, I would have to shake/pick them out before starting to turn the crank), but once it was going, it kept going without jamming (protip: start turning the crank before pulling the trigger). On the downside, the capacity is not that great compared to other brands, and it left blisters on my index finger the first time I used it. You should wear leather work gloves if you're going to operate this.

It will do the job but I was dissatisfied with the way it worked. For about the same price you can get the Scott Handgreen II #71133 which for me turned out to be a much better unit. See my report on the Scott 71133 spreader.

Works as described. No problems whatsoever. Spreads seeds evenly and has an adjustment on the amount of seed you want for it to dispurse. I would definately recommend.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's just as bad as all the other spreaders of this type, April 9, 2011

This thing is just as bad as all the other cheap hand-held spreaders. I read the reviews of all the spreaders on Amazon and this was the best, but it has the same issues they all do: it clogs almost constantly, the mechanics are made of plastic so you cant force the clog through, you can feel all the plastic inside bending if you use too much force. You just have to walk around like an idiot moving the handle back and forth shaking it hoping its doing a decent spread.

4.0 out of 5 stars Earthway 3400 Ergonomic Hand Held Broadcast Seeder/Spreader, November 12, 2009

This review is from: Earthway 3400 Ergonomic Hand-Held Broadcast Seeder/Spreader (Lawn & Patio)
This broadcast seeder/spreader works exceptionally well for my use. I had purched one of the popular "green models" of another brand and had to retrun it because the gears continually jammed if fine material was broadcast as it would enter the gear box. The Earthway 3400 works smoothly (no gear problems at all) and the settings are easily made with the separate adjustment mechanism. My one and only disappointment with this unit is that the hopper is much small than I expected and frequent refills are required if you use it for a good size area. I would have given it a 5 star rating if the hopper was larger. As a side issue, the shipping and delivery was extremely slow. It took something over three weeks to receive this seeder/spreader after ordering it with free shipping (combined with another order).

This item looked great and felt fine in the hand- but broke literally within 25 seconds of routine use. JUNK. Stay away.
