The advantages of any corded mower are: Turns on and off easily; no difficulty in starting it; maintenance is easy; no gasoline to buy or fuss with; no fumes; no batteries to charge and replace; and you save on fuel (either gasoline or batteries) as the corded electricity cost is minimal.

I was very happy with this mower. My only complaint was the rear flexiable guard is too long and when you are pulling the mower backwards it get into the blade. I just cut off about 3 inches of the guard which is just a soft plastic and it works great. The mower has plenty of power and it is quiet. It mulches high grass OK and does normal length grass fine. All in all a fine mower.

I bought this mower as a replacement to Black & Decker Lawn Hog. I have owned two previous Black & Decker Electric mowers. Both were durable, and lasted several years. This mower does not disapoint. The 12amp motor has no troble even with tall overgrown grass. The blade runs very close to the edge of the deck. This is very nice, helps alignment. It mulchs well and ejects well. The one handle height adjustment works great. That would be a huge point for some one elderly, or with arthritis. I have had this mower for about 2 months now, and really feel it is built well. I will definetly see how long it will last. I mow a considerable area, for an electric mower. I use every foot of a 100' cord in the front and back yards. Considering that this was about $50-$75 lower then the name brands, shippe free, arrived in just about 3 days, and works great, I would definetly recommend this mower.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for me, May 5, 2009
This review is from: Earthwise 50018 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Side Discharge/Mulching Lawn Mower (Lawn & Patio)
At first I wasn't sure if I really should buy an electric lawn mower or go gas. At the end though I made the right choice. The lawn mower is easy to put together right from the box. With in a minute you are ready to cut some grass. It had no problem cutting down very thick and high grass. It slowed a bit during high grass, but within seconds it was right back to normal. I had no problems pushing the mower, even as I am use to those gas mowers that self propel themselves. The only problem with these are the cords and getting use to move around with them. Once you do that though, their are no other problems. This mower was easily worth my money.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a keeper, May 2, 2009
This review is from: Earthwise 50018 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Side Discharge/Mulching Lawn Mower (Lawn & Patio)
Now that I've had the mower for a couple of months...

It still works pretty good.

The extension cord is now a barely noticeable inconvenience. I'm not sure if it's because I've learned to deal with it, or if it's the longer and lighter 12/3 extension cord that I purchased after a few mowings. In any case, because of the mower's light weight, most people should be able to handle the unit with one hand and the extension cord with the other. Just like vacuuming - but with grasshoppers.

I tend to use it in the early mornings to avoid the heat - and the dew and general dampness of the grass doesn't seem to pose much of a problem.

I also run it with the side discharge port closed - with no noticeable negative effect.

Two minor quibbles.

The unit could use some improvement with respect to maneuverability. The instructions suggest a snaking pattern across the lawn - not feasible in my opinion without a lot a abrupt mower lifting. So I've come to adopt a straight forward and backward pattern on my yard. Works great, except (like someone else has noted) the rear flap is a little too long and sometimes get caught underneath when I'm back-tracking. I've chosen to 'adjust' the rear plastic guard as well.

Second there are a lot of nooks and crannies underneath the deck. After mowing, I'm constantly fiddling underneath to dislodge clippings.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Works pretty good.

Lawn was a little on the long side - but the mower did its job. Had to go back and re-mow some spots - but I'm going to chalk that up to inexperience with the mower and its attendant cord.

It's definitely not like a regular mower. On the plus side, it's awfully light, pretty cheap and relatively quiet. On the negative side, the cord is going to take some getting used to; and if you're used to briskly walking a traditional mower across your yard, a more sedate pace might be required if your lawn is on the overgrown side.

I was a little hesistant to buy this particular model at first: lack of user reviews, couldn't find anyplace with decent specs on the model, there's another (newer) model on Amazon. But I took a shot. Mainly because I wanted something with a non-plastic deck, it was cheap, and Amazon seemed to indicate that it was a top-seller - despite it's lack of reviews.

Note to Earthwise - a basic website, with some specs on your various models - would've helped tremendously in my making a decision. I might've even purchased the newer model - IF I could figure out what the diffferences were. As it was, I didn't know what to expect from the company and their product.

I was prepared for the worst - but was pleasantly surprised.

The disadvantage is the cord. First you will have to buy a cord of sufficient length and gauge. It is likely the outdoor extension cord you currently have is 16 gauge and that is not sufficient. You will need a 14 or 12 gauge cord. Secondly, the cord will be in the way as you are mowing and you have to be constantly mindfull of the cord.

Regarding this specific mower, after a limited time I can

state that it seems satisfactory. It is easy to assemble and the folding handles seem sturdy and are convenient for storage. Be aware that it is NOT made in the U.S.

Earthwise 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Side Discharge/Mulching Lawn Mower #50018

Yes, it would be wonderful to have a cordless, but for the $$ that's just not in my budget. This little mower is wonderful. The delivery was ahead of schedule, it took all of 5 minutes to be ready to use it and it certainly cuts heavy weeds (wish I had more grass, but just getting started at a new [for us] house).

It has plowed through thick weeds and has no trouble with the dozens of small oak droppings that end up all over the yard. It just chops them up and helps them become fertilizer.

I've only used it twice, so can't say how it's going to hold up, but it's make of metal and there seems to be no major problems except for a screw that wants to loosen.

Highly recommend to date.

I bought this mower after much scoffing from people. I was told not to buy an electric lawn mower, but I couldn't start my big lawn mower as I did not have enough strength to pull it started. I want to go back and tell everyone who told me not to buy it how great it is! It is so nice to just plug in the cord and start mowing. As in the other reviews, it was very easy to assemble. It is light and easy to mow with. I have used it two times and am tickled pink by my new investment. I recommend this to anyone, but especially ladies who are not strong.

From the time UPS unloaded the box, I got the box open and the mower out I was mowing the yard in about 10 minutes. Very good mower, easy to use, instant start. Wheel heighth adjustment is the easiest I have ever used on any mower! I am very happy with it. Karen

Works great. The flap does sometimes go back under the mower when you pull it backwards, but this hasn't been a major problem. I would recommend this to anyone that has a small area to mow but not for large lawns.
