Designed to Save You Time and Effort over the Long Term
The wide 18-inch cutting path and heavy-duty steel mower deck ensure efficient, long-lasting performance. With wide 18-inch coverage, your lawn will require fewer passes, which will save you both time and effort.
Navigating tough, uneven terrain is made easy by the composite seven-inch wheels that feature ball bearings for better maneuverability and longer life. And the V-handle with cushion grip offers greater control over tough terrain and provides improved comfort. A nice bonus, the handle folds down to make storing your lawnmower a breeze.
Single-Lever Height Control for Easier Adjustments
Instead of requiring you to adjust each wheel every time you need to change your blade height, the Earthwise 50118 Electric Mower's single-lever height control system lets you adjust the height of the cut in just one step. You can choose between seven height positions, ranging from 1-1/2 to four inches.
Single-lever height control is just one feature that makes the 50118 so easy to use. Other ease-of-use features include a handle-mounted safety-blade control and a special cord hook for managing the power cord during operation. Additionally, no tools are required for assembly. Simply hand-tighten the necessary components and you're ready to go.
Innovative 2-in-1 Design for Added Versatility
Outperforming other mowers, the Earthwise 50118 Electric Lawnmower is two mowers in one, functioning as a mulching mower and a side discharge mower. The side-discharge feature makes for easy cleanup, while the mulch setting helps you thicken your lawn for attractive results.
The Earthwise 50118 weighs 48 pounds, and it is backed by a two-year limited warranty from the manufacturer.

This review is from: Earthwise 50118 18-Inch 12 amp Electric Side Discharge/Mulching Lawn Mower (Lawn & Patio)
If I could give this mower 10 stars I would. I live on a sloping, uneven lot in Colorado, with some steep pitches. As a 65 year old woman, I wanted the lightest possible mower with no maintenance hassle. Battery operated or gasoline engine mowers would be too heavy. I wheel this around like a toy, often one handed as I brush shrubs or flowers out of the way. It does a beautiful job on the front lawn. But I also put it to the acid test yesterday, and cut the rough area on the steep back of my property. This mower went through 16 to 20 inch high grass and weeds (slowly so it would mulch thoroughly), shredded a large sprinkler head (ugh!) and cut through juniper branches. It never stopped, and only slowed a little when I hit a really big pile of viney weeds to mulch through. I ran it on the highest setting, but it was great to be able to lower it with a quick and easy touch when I wanted to. It's very easy to stop and start. What a wonderful change from the pull to start gas mower! Also, it never clogged no matter what I put under it, just mulched this large amount of organic matter into particles so small they aren't visible. Be aware if you buy it that a cord does not come with it. Also, delivery from The Outdoor Store/Dixie Sales was quick: ordered May 30 pm and received June 4 am. July 14, 2009 update: I didn't know an amp from a watt when I bought this. At first I used a 16 gauge 100 foot extension cord I had for Christmas tree lights. It seemed to run OK, but I could have damaged the motor. So just got the Woods 2885 Yellow Jacket 100-Foot 12/3 SJTW Yellow 15 Amp/125 Volt Rated Outdoor Extension Cord with PowerLite PlugRated Outdoor Extension Cord with PowerLite Plug and used it for the first time last night. With a 15 amp rating it has plenty of power for this 12 amp mower. It was absolutely no more difficult to move around, and the Alert Stamping 7000WR Pro-Reel Cord Carrier is great for tidy storage, easy to wind and unwind. Highly recommend both these products, too.Update September 2011: This machine is still going strong. I have purchased new blades which are so inexpensive, easy to install, and last most or all of a season. My lawn is quite visibly healthier, very lush like a green carpet. I don't dethatch nor aerate it, just mow once a week. I believe leaving the mulched grass on the lawn in addition to mulched leaves in the fall has made a big difference. I think the mulching action may pull up and pulverize dead grass and debris to the point that it never forms thatch. I use a winterizer fertilizer on it in late October, and Weed and Feed once a year to keep the weeds down. Also an update re cord management which I got from another reviewer: Find the middle of the cord, mark it with a marking pen or zip tie, and wind the cord from the middle. Much quicker!

Out w/ the reel mower and in w/ the real mower!,

This review is from: Earthwise 50118 18-Inch 12 amp Electric Side Discharge/Mulching Lawn Mower (Lawn & Patio)
I purchased my 1st single family home with a good size back yard late last summer. I had the intention of being green when purchasing a reel mower, but the drawbacks outweighed the benefits. My yard is uneven and given the different surface type and shape of the mower, it would roll into the valleys and actually scalp the lawn in areas. As the grass thickened, it becomes more difficult to mow through. I was unable to locate a grass catcher locally for my mower and it left clumps of long grass on top of the lawn. I always had to rake before it rained or else the dog would track in long bits of wet grass. I finally tossed in the towel and purchased this after reading the reviews on the 50018 model. The price was enticing but the reviews were also good. The day I received my mower, I quickly attached the handle and was off and mowing. Starts quickly and runs quieter than a gas mower. No oil, no gas, no smells to deal with. Easy to push through thick grass. If you mow away from the power source, the cord is easy to deal with. The mulching feature did away with the debris laying on top of the lawn. Adjusting the height was easier than the reel mower. Just pop the lever and move it to the appropriate height in one step instead of two. I am actally anticipating the next mowing instead of dreading it. In my opinion, reel mowers are great if you have a small, level area to maintain. I am so happy I purchase this mower.

Good mower,

I've had the Earthwise #50118 for about a month. It is easy to use, cuts well and is reasonably quiet. I really
like the simple, one-step height adjustment. It's my first corded mower and it takes a little bit of getting used to maneuvering with the extension cord, but it's not really a problem. Stopping and starting is a breeze. There are no gas fumes or gas cans to be bothered with. I'm pleased.
