Funny Folk Music,

Phil Ward writes very clever songs about things from daily life. This bare knuckles, live recording is great fun to listen to.

I received this CD on Saturday, it is now late Sunday and I have played it almost continuously...someone help me.Mr. Ward reveals his life to us in a sequence of autobiographical musical missives, which provide unmatched hilarity. A kind of, The-Smothers-Brothers-with-smarts...but without the brother. Or maybe with the brother. I don't know. Maybe Phil has a brother. But if he does, he is not on this album. The first couple of songs are the weakest so feel free to SKIP them to the good stuff. I am tempted to tell you to jump straight to the mutant-shark-bear-machine-bot song. But I won't do that 'cause then you'd miss great stuff like the yuppies-wear-ties-and-have-stuff-I-don't song and other great peeks into Phil's twisted, tortured mind. All and all, this CD will have you grinning, laughing and hitting the <back> button to hear the last bit again. And, if Mr. Ward does have a brother, I'd love to meet him so I could ask, "Who...is Jenny Chow?" |
