5.0 out of 5 stars A great resource!
In a non-judgemental manner, this book covers ALL of the options for pain relief during labor and birth. It has accurate information, personal comments on subjects such as: epidural anesthesia, positioning, TENS, accupressure, support and much, much more! A must read for every expectant couple!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not loving the book so far..
I'm 8 month pregnant and found out I can't have an epidural due to a medical condition, so I started looking for ways to deal with labor pains. I bought this book based on the reviews, but it turns out the book has too much blah blah and like statistics and stories, and in my opinion it doesn't get to the point.
I'm looking for actual ways to help my labor, not the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent info tool for any Mom-to-be, December 15, 2001
By
Whether you're fretting over your first time giving birth, or (like me) you're currently housing your 3rd baby, "Easing Labor Pain" is a must-have. Some women have contractions that they classify as "uncomfortable, but not unbearable", while others say it was the worst experience of their life. Good ol' Mother Nature always keeps us on our toes by offering no set pattern to tell one way or the other what degree of pain we'll suffer during labor. Instead of offering one particular method to use, "Easing Labor Pain" explains every option available; Lamaze or Bradley method? Epidural? What about "water birth"? Should I have induced labor? What drug-free options are there to relieve pain? Any question you can think of is covered in this 247-page gem, as well as the pros and cons of any particular procedure or method, allowing you to consider all options before heading into the delivery room. I'm a 3rd time birthing veteran (1 c-section, 1 VBAC), and yet I'm still thrilled to find a book that gives me info and ideas to consider regarding this subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars *So* glad I got this book!, November 9, 2001
By A Customer
I think I'm a typical mom-to-be -- I know that pain relief medications have some risks, and I'd like to try to avoid them if alternative pain relief works, but I'm not determined to avoid medications at all costs, either.

I found this book extremely helpful because it gave a lot of great, practical suggestions for non-drug relief -- relaxation exercises, TENS units, etc. -- but also presented information about the drug options. I felt like I was getting a lot of facts without a lot of ideology/propaganda, and this is a loaded enough issue that I consider that like a breath of fresh air.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Informative, Unique Book, March 22, 2002
This book covers pain relief options available to expectant mothers - and just that. No goofy personal, religious, or spiritual beliefs to be pushed on anyone - just interesting, factual information written in a friendly manner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great description of labor pain, July 27, 2007

I highly recommend this book to anyone beginning their search on how to handle labor pain. The first chapter gives an excellent description of the different types of pain you may feel (better and more complete than any others I have read), and really helps you prepare for what you may face. The other chapters give great summaries of different methods for relieving/handling the pain. While they are not complete how-to chapters on the techniques' uses, it will help you know which are the best options for you so that you can then do more investigation elsewhere for details on the specifics of the techniques. It is well written and a great starting point.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy This Book, January 18, 2006
This book is wonderful! Adrienne Leiberman presents the information about natural childbirth in a realistic and down to earth manner. The book gives great detailed information about the entire process of birth in a factual manner without becomming too clinical. She gives easy to learn exercises in visualization and relaxation to manage and even lessen the pain of childbirth. Although it is evedent that she prefers a natural childbirth to one that uses medications for pain releif, she provides plenty of information about pain medications that may be available at the time of delivery. This book helped me gain the confidence I needed to give birth naturally by informing me about what was happening to my body throughout the process, why it is painful, and how to properly manage that pain and discomfort. Buy this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Helped me have the most wonderful birth!!, July 3, 2010

(REAL NAME)
I read this book before the birth of my 3rd child. I previously had HORRIBLE pain during labor and always caved and got the epidural. After reading this book, it really helped me understand physiologically WHY I was feeling pain, how to cope with the pain (and more importantly, the FEAR), and how to use the contractions productively! The result was not a pain free labor, but a MUCH more painless labor, and an amazingly beautiful birth experience! No kidding, it was...perfect!! I was ephoric, and I would have done it again in a heartbeat! I was writing poetry for weeks afterward about the incredible birth experience!! Highly recommend!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this one, January 19, 2007
This was the book I was looking for. I wanted a book that gave you natural, alternative ways of coping with labor pain. This hit the nail on the head. Like other readers have said you got the facts without the bias. There were even sections on using medication as well as common interventions during labor. This was definitely worth the money and should be helpful to me during labor!

Very simple and easy to read. I wasn't able to do a lamaze class and this helped me to prepare etc. It also helped me to feel more relaxed about the whole thought of labor and expectations. Everything went smoothly. I highly suggest this book for anyone and their first time.
