4.0 out of 5 stars Good yogurt starter
This yogurt starter is different from the other little 5g packets.... This yogurt is less tart and much thicker. Instead of using a 5g packet, I use about three spoons of this starter and mix it to a liter of milk.

3.0 out of 5 stars $15.00??????? What?
I bought these yogurt mizxes last August, and the price was $4.95 per packet. It is completely incomprehensible why they would have tripled in price in half a year. There is no way I would buy 6oz of powdered milk and starter culture for this price.

I have been using other commercial starters (Cuisipro, Yogourmet) for years but decided to give this a try. I wasn't about to spend 5 bucks a batch or invest in the Easiyo maker so I used my Danvier electric maker and traditional methods; 1 qt 2% milk, heated to 180 and cooled to about 105, added 1/2 pkg easiyo and gave it about 6 hrs. I got thicker and less tart yogurt than I ever got with any other starter. Buying more today.

I thought this was just starter culture, but it has powdered milk and you just mix it with water. It's made for a specific type of yougurt machine, but it will work in a conventional type as well. It's good thick yougurt, but it only makes one batch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Greek Yogurt!, June 25, 2009

I use these with the Easiyo Yogurt Maker and it's so simple You can start a batch in less than 3 minutes - no milk to heat and watch on the stove, no waiting for it to cool to add starter, no pot to wash. Six hours later, you have perfect thick and creamy Greek yogurt.

If you think these packets are too pricey; yes, they cost more than store-bought non-Greek yogurt, but for good quality Greek yogurt, they're actually more economical.

Fage, the best brand of Greek yogurt, sells at about $4.59 for a 17-ounce container at Trader Joe's; elsewhere that size sells for as much as $6.50 to $6.99. Double that price for a quart - very pricey.

Trader Joe's makes their own brand of Greek yogurt that sells for $1.95 for 17-ounces. It's ok, but not as good as Fage. The Easiyo Greek unsweetened comes in at a bit less than Trader Joe's (with the buy 4-pay-for-3 promotion, and free shipping), and it tastes like Fage.

So instead of spending about $9 - $14 for 1 quart of Fage yogurt, the Easiyo Greek unsweetened comes in at under $3.75 for 1 quart -- truly a bargain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Trader Joe, March 21, 2009
This review is from: Easiyo 252102 Greek Style Yogurt Base and Culture, 6-Ounce (Kitchen)
Good rich yogurt. Made with an electric appliance it just takes longer. I start about 4 pm and follow directions--add cold water, mix, then pour in my electric machine's container and the next morning (or earlier) it is ready. If you pour the liquid off after first serving, it gets very dense, almost like cream cheese.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Easy--But Outrageously Priced, March 4, 2010
This review is from: Easiyo 252102 Greek Style Yogurt Base and Culture, 6-Ounce (Kitchen)
This yogurt is a no-brainer to make even without the Easiyo System. I just mixed it with water, poured it into jelly jars and put it in the oven on the bread proofing setting--and perfect Greek yogurt! I bought 4 packs for the price of three on special through Amazon just a few months ago and it was only $4.75 a packet. So I bought something else and got free shipping. I was very pleased with the purchase. Somehow in the meantime, the price has nearly quadrupled and I'm not sure why. I kept looking thinking I had made a mistake and was looking at a larger quantity or something. But, no, it was the same one. So that priced me out of the market and I won't be buying it again. I just bought some Greek yogurt from the store, stirred 5 oz. of it into heated milk (that had cooled down), put it in the oven--and once again, perfect Greek yogurt -- at a much cheaper price than $15.

O.K. So I gave in and just ordered the Easiyo Yogurt Maker and Greek style yogurt base and culture packets because of all the great reviews on how easy it is to use and how awesome the yogurt comes out.It arrived yesterday and OMG how amazing! Five minutes prep, eight hours later,Perfect greek style yogurt with just water,a packet, and no electricity!
Wow,but yes expensive considering the packet cost me $15 to make 1 quart. I don't understand Ana's review on how this comes in at under $3.75 a quart. What am I missing,I'm confused, any math clarification help would be greatly appreciated.
B.T.W. I ordered these 3 days ago on Amazon, free 2day delivery(prime) and they are having a special offer at this time of buy 4 for price of 3. I guess that makes each packet approx. $11 dollars plus free shipping which is better than $15. Do not know how long this will last so might order another batch of 4 while I can! Love this.

If you make it in the Easiyo Yoghurt Maker, this yoghurt is the consistency of frosting - YUM-O! I can't afford to make it all the time with these $5 packets, so I use this once every four to six months when my yoghurt starter begins to be less effective... See my product review on how I save money by not using the packets to make the yoghurt every single time. I make it with the Easiyo Yogurt Maker with Red Lid Jar.

I've used this with the Easiyo yogurt maker, and it's just great--even my husband will eat it! It comes out very rich and creamy and I barely sweeten it.

It's expensive, although you can get it here on Amazon as a 4-for-3 and remember, you don't need milk. Taking those two things into account, it's about the same price as premium store-bought. But really really good!
