It is rare to find a book with so much in-depth knowledge about East Asia and its place in the world. The author is one of those rare people -- a westerner who has lived, worked, and played in East Asia for the best part of his adult life. Because of this, Roy Garner has been able to fit small experiences and observations of everyday life in different cultures into the larger picture of a world coming together. This book is a must read for anyone visiting East Asia, and indeed, for anyone seeking to understand the bigger picture in the fast-changing societies of the Far East.
