Editorial Reviews

Few bands have ever combined gutsy blues-rock and sheer joyous energy the way the Blazers did on East Side Soul, much less created such a successful and interesting fusion of musical cultures. Many critics have remarked on the richness that their Latin rhythms brings to straight-ahead rock numbers, but not on the tasteful way those influences go the other way. You can hear traces of Little Feat and John Fogerty on the cumbias and other numbers which are sung in Spanish. On this album everything mixes perfectly, and the material is of uniformly high quality. Manuel Gonzales contributes stinging guitar leads throughout, notably on "Let Me Go," which has a distinct hint of Stevie Ray Vaughan in the tone and phrasing. The band plays with precision and passion, and the production on East Side Soul is more polished than on their first album. This is definitely the one to get if you're interested in hearing the Blazers in full cry.

I began listening to THE BLAZERS music about 7 years ago and got hooked. I have all the CD's these guys have put out and EAST SIDE SOUL continues to my favorite of the bunch. This album was produced by Cesar Rosas of Los Lobos. The album starts off with "FUN & LAUGHTER" which lets you know that's what THE BLAZERS music is all about. Then a few tracks later you get a latino classic "CUMBIA DEL SOL", but this is done BLAZERS style it's outstanding. My favorite song on the album "DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY". The last track "Ooh-Poo-Pah-Doo" is a great song where THE BLAZERS play off their fans during live performaces and it gets the crowd going. This CD starts off hot and leaves you BLAZIN -----

I must second the review above. This is a great concoction of rock, blues, and east LA latino rhythms. There are a number of salsa influenced numbers mixed in with straight ahead blues rockers like "Before I Get Too Old". East LA and Sunset see a lot of bands like this, just not this good. This album just drips with fun.

These guys are just a bit like Los Lobos but with a different flare. I recommend this to all lovers of blues or latino influenced music.

Great cd and band. Too bad they have made so few albums. Perhaps this yet?
