This is one the best albums of the late guitarist Emily Remler. Supported by the marvelous rhythm section of Hank Jones, Buster Williams and the always moving Marvin "Smitty" Smith, she handles the varied material with ease and brilliance. The title cut is my personal favorite of the album. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emily's Masterpiece March 19, 2009
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Emily Remler's last straight-ahead jazz recording before her untimely death. This is a "must-have" for any Emily Remler fan or any jazz guitar fan. The title track, "East to Wes" is a gas and her rendition of "Snowfall" is mesmerizing, creating a warm feeling like you're sitting in front of a fireplace watching the snow outside. Not a bad tune in this set.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you like Sco and Wes ... December 21, 1999
Format:Audio CD
Emily's style never had a chance to mature, but it seems she shares some of the same elements that inspired John Scofields' style. This is somewhere between Wes Montgomery and early Sco. It may be the one to get if you can't decide which Remler to start with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD August 27, 2014
By SRJ
Format:Audio CD
What a wonderful disc. I had heard her name 25 years ago, but never bothered to look for her disc's. I have to tell you, this is some intelligently conceived stuff. Great CD throughout. "Snowfall" and "Softly as in a Morning Sunrise" standout as especially inspired. Emily's playing was dictated by the music-never flashy or egotistical. I consider my purchase a real "discovery". I will be buying her debut CD "Firefly" today.

Excellent!! Emily had a passion for Wes Montgomery and it comes through on this CD. It is so sad to lose such a talent at such an early age; bad choices, bad outcome!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not Mindblowing May 4, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I had heard great things about Emily Remler and been wanting to hear her for awhile. I enjoy this cd but it didn't make a big impression on me. I don't see it getting much play. That doesn't diminish her legacy though.

4.0 out of 5 stars How did I miss her? February 24, 2014
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Honestly, I had never heard of Emily. I happened upon her on youtube doing a hot licks video (guitar instruction). I really like this album. It is straight ahead jazz guitar, but sometimes has a contemporary edge, especially "Snowfall."
As a player myself, it is hard for me to fathom that she could do all of this with such tiny hands.
I recommend this album for guitar jazz fans. 4 out of 5 because 5's should be few and far between- reserved for classics.

Emily was a phenomenon. Life sure ain't fair when a talent like her dies young & Kanye is still wasting oxygen.
