I'm trying to be careful because my original Xbox 360 has already broken once and a used Kinect I bought also was broken. Therefore, I want a power supply which is made by Microsoft. This page says that the product is made by Microsoft, but the product I received was not. It was made by gaminghost and it is made for the "X-360 Ki-Nect." I have submitted this info to Amazon and am returning the product.

If you didn't buy the stand-alone Kinect Sensor system, this is the adapter you'll need to connect the Kinect camera with older XBOX 360 consoles (Xenon, Zephyr, Falcon, Opus, Jasper motherboards). One end of the cable will plug into the Kinect. This Y-shaped cable splits the connection: one USB to communicate with your XBOX 360 and another to plug into your A/C outlet for power.

Ever since I bought the XBOX 360/Kinect bundle, I've been waiting for this adapter cable to connect the Kinect with my old XBOX 360 (my old system is in the bedroom, and the slim one is in the living room).

This adapter is sold by Microsoft at full retail price. You're also going to be paying the full shipping price unless there's a shipping promotion. I may have chosen this path but it's also constantly out-of-stock, so I decided to wait.

I'm glad I waited for Amazon (and its merchants). The price is roughly 15% off the retail - 20% if you get free super saver shipping. Mine was from merchant Springledge Entertainment, just to give credit where it's due.

Amazon did a good job with packaging - more than I expected for a simple cable. There's no fancy branded box, but it's well protected with bubble-padding and typical 3"x8"x11" inch cardboard box. I've used it and it works fine with both front and back usb ports on the old xbox consoles. Just make sure your older XBOX received the Kinect platform update from Live released back in November 2010, and everything will work just like the new XBOX 360 slim. In case you aren't familiar, you can connect to Live and update with a Live Free account.

It's unfortunate that Microsoft didn't include this cable in their bundle, but at least Amazon offers a good price on what you need.

Let's just say this.
When you buy a kinect BY ITSELF, it should come with the adapter.
If you bought a bundle, as I did, it doesn't.

It is available right now from the Microsoft store, it's not bad price-wise.
But if you want to use your kinect on an older model XBOX, you need it. Plain and simple.
Microsoft's shipping was quick. Don't stress over the adapter.
Just order it and move on with your life.

Product arrived and it was immediately clear that it is of poor quality. That is to be expected for the cheap price, however the power adapter does not send enough power to the Kinect, meaning that this it worthless. Spend the extra $10 and go with a higher-end version.

I have had this unit for about a month and a half, today there was a loud pop and foul smell that came from this adapter. It exploded, the cover was literally blown off and there was only a scrap of it left plugged into the surge protector. It also made a faint high pitched squealing noise right from day one, but I was ok living with that.

It does its job like its supposed to! I bought the kinect used on amazon and it didn't come with this wire because I have the older Xbox 360. So I had to purchase this piece separate. I was scared to purchase it because of all these negative comments, but they were wrong. Works great! I was finally able to play the kinect. I just didn't like shipping because it was coming from NC and IM a state away and it took exactly a week to come. I bought things that were in California that came in 3 days. Other wise Im happy with the purchase!

I got the Kinect with the Xbox 250GB slim and only later realized that I would need this to connect to my PC and hack. It works well, but is a bit too pricey for my liking and hence the four-star. Also, the power adapter is long and prevents connecting to the next two power plugs (especially if you are using this in a power strip).

I was able to take the Kinect, power it up and connect it to my PC without an issue. Green light on plug is a little annoying but, who cares!
