When I first bought the album the title made me think it may have some interesting and maybe somewhat intriguing tracks. Generally though the mood of the album is undefined without any real conviction or chances (except the two songs mentioned below) lyrically or musically. I had been since his first album and still am a faithfull Kristofferson listener, but I guess I just wanted more from this album than it delivered. The Sabre and the Rose is really a great song though and I would have spent the same amount of money for that one song as the entire album. Spooky Ladys Revenge is also very good. The rest of the songs are listenable but after so many Kristofferson songs that made you sad, happy, laugh, or wonder why about things these songs were only that, listenable. Still, its Kristofferson, his songs, his style and thats still better than most.

Being a TRUE Kris Kristofferson fan,one cannot find anything wrong with any album. I found that this album was a change pace for Kris's normal songs. I really enjoyed the album, especially The Fighter.
