Easter Explained to Your Pre-schooler,
By "normandy_invasion" (Alexandria, KY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Easter Is...for Me! (A For Me Book) (Paperback)
We have several children's bibles in our home, but this book does a better job of explaining the Easter story to pre-schoolers. The book is written in a conversational tone starting with some of the distractions of Easter but quickly focuses on the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. It reassures children that this was God's plan from the beginning.... it was sad that Jesus died..... but he became alive again and he did it all for them. The last section of the book focuses attention on some of the symbols that can remind the child of the new life they have in Christ.

I tried reading this on Easter to my daughters and their 9 year old friend and lost them somewhere on the first page. It tries to cover both the history, meaning and current context of Easter and I think it's too ambitious. It jumps from topic to topic and while it's on a topic, the book meanders.
The conversational tone felt strange to read aloud since it's not the way that I would normally speak to a child. It felt a little too falsely bright. It asks the child to respond to questions like, "do you think...?" etc. and I was left hanging because the kids weren't interested enough to respond. I'll keep looking for a book that explains Christ's place in Easter for the preschool set. |
