Corbin's Solidly Country Debut,

Prime Cuts: This Far From Memphis, Leaving a Lonely Town, Don't Ask Me About A Woman
Behind a great record stands a great producer. Just when country music has been hijacked by the derivative rock of the 70s and the drivel of adult contemporary shtick of the 90s, this record is the avatar that there's still hope for fans of the traditional persuasion. This album's raison detre is to a large measure due to presence of producer Carson Chamberlain. Being the man who wrote some of country music's cornerstone pieces such as George Strait's chart topper "The Best Day," Alan Jackson's "Love's Got a Hold on You" and Tanya Tucker's classic tearjerker "(Without You) What Do I Do With Me," Chamberlain has given this disc a traditional push that sets this release apart from the current radio fare with nary a cacophonous chorus of noise or screeching electric guitar riffs. Rather, listening to this CD calls to mind an amalgam of the countrified sounds of George Strait, the mournful cries of Keith Whitley and the tropical escapism of Kenny Chesney. Vocally, Easton Corbin does have a southern drawled tenor that calls to mind the aforementioned Chesney without sounding too distinctive. Nevertheless, it's the songs that make this record a stand out. First and foremost, Easton Corbin is to be congratulated for his hard work in learning from the best country music in town. You could almost hear Alan Jackson singing "Don't Ask Me About a Woman." This is the type of record that made Alan Jackson such a superstar: clever use of words over a humorous take on the gender divide all over an infectious melody. And Easton Corbin is wizened to take this a signature hit to come and make it his very own. The carefree "A Lot to Learn About Leavin'" calls to mind Kenny Chesney with its Cuban-island relaxing feel. Tony Lane and Johnny Park's "Roll with It" has an uncanny resemblance to George Strait's mega hit "Run" except that it is set at a faster pace with pronounced fiddling. The jaunty "The Way Love Looks" triumphs on its sunny disposition over some Diamond Rio-esque guitar and Corbin's Brad- Paisley type excitement. Despite Easton Corbin's tipping his hat to his sonic heroes, it doesn't mean he is bereft of his own signature authenticity. The saccharine "Someday When I'm Old" has a bluesy feel that is riverting piece to listen to. One of the best road songs this year has to be "This Far From Memphis," which scores the record's best original line "Now I've run out of road/So I guess my only hope is to trade this truck for a boat." If you want to hear Corbin bear out his soul, take a listen to the mournful "Leavin' a Lonely Town" and prepare for some tearful moments as Corbin bids his parents goodbye as he leaves home. Lead single "A Little More Country Than That" may not chart new grounds with its picturesque reference about Corbin's own self identification with everything rural, but it has such a gorgeous melody that it stays etched into the memory for the long haul. For a debut record, Easton Corbin's self titled release is a winner. It doesn't yield to the temptation to crossover to the pop market nor does it endeavour to be sound hip without regards to the album's depth. Rather rifle with clever and catchy tunes over a backing which is afraid to let the steel guitar and fiddles take the lead, this is a bona fide country record. And producer Carson Chamberlain is to be congratulated together with Corbin for a job well done.

The future of country music.,

A most impressive debut album. It seems country music may have found an artist worthy of carrying the torch. A true country album from start to finish. It is in my opinion the best release since George Strait's It Just Comes Natural. I've listened straight through the cd at least 20 times by now. Not a bit of filler on this record. The stand outs are Someday when im old, This far from memphis, I cant love you back, leavin a lonely town, and roll with it.
If you want a true country record that you wont want to take out of your cd player, buy Easton Corbin. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

YEP! It is!
This guy reminds me of the time way way back when I first heard George Strait when I was a kid. I got all crazy excited hearing Easton's first single .....one time! That's all it took was one listen for me to say ...WOW...this guy sounds awesome. Now after hearing all of his debut cd I am MORE than impressed. I grew up on Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Willie, Cash, etc. and this guy is bringing country BACK!!!! I, like others, are disgusted by the bubblegum pop crap "country" that doesn't belong even being called country nowadays. The radio is repulsive in my mind so I don't really listen to it. I usually come to Amazon and look up artists I like and discover other artists like Easton by accident. My 4 favorite artists are (no particular order) Jamey Johnson (amazing amazing amazing 1,000,000% country) , Gary Allan (most underrated COUNTRY artist from day 1) , George Strait (the KING), and now Easton Corbin! Those artists ARE country! I hope Easton has a career that people only dream of and he has many many albums to come. I hope he doesn't fall off the map like Blaine Larsen (a great young kid with an amazing country voice). I'm also praying he doesn't fall into the wrong hands of Nashville like Kenny Chesney did. Listen to Kenny's first 2 or 3 cds, then listen to his newer work! He went downhill faster than a snowball in hell! I would believe the great country boys of the past that have passed on are 2 steppin in the grave knowing this dude is rockin some real country tunes. Hope we can let Nashville (crapville, whatever u wanna call em) know that this is what we want pumped out of there, NOT anymore Taylor Puking Swift and the like! You want new country? Buy this album, both Jamey Johnsons, and all of Gary Allans and you are good to go! NOW THIS IS COUNTRY!

This CD is one of the best that I have heard in a long time. Easton brings each song to life with such conviction that you can almost see the imagery. I really can't pick out a favorite, and that is what constitutes a first rate work for me. I don't usually purchase a CD without hearing it, but this is one of those rare exceptions. Pure Country all the way!

Thank God there's still young talent like Easton Corbin willing to go against the trend of "pop country" and make real music like this. "A Little More Country Than That" is clearly the best song on the album to me. That melody is just fantastic, with perfectly crafted lyrics to match. I will never get tired of that song. Seriously, when the single came out I bought it on iTunes and listened to it at least twice per day for over a month. Two other of my favorite tracks are "Let Alone You" and "That'll Make You Wanna Drink". Overall this is a medium-paced album, the kind that shines the most when played while going on a long drive. And that voice, ah the George Strait comparisons. Yes, his songs sound like George Strait's songs, especially "Roll With It" and "Don't Ask Me 'Bout A Woman", but I think that it more to do with the melodies and lyrics than with his singing. And I don't mean that in a bad way, because he has a great voice. All I'm saying is that he's not George Strait, he's himself. And that's a good thing, because I don't want a George Strait clone (no offense meant to King George). Finally, I just want to talk a bit about "A Lot To Learn About Livin'", which is your ubiquitous "tropical vacation" song. It's a superior example of that kind of song because the whole song tells a story. It's not just talking about some abstract vacation theme (a la every other Kenny Chesney song), there's actually a sequence of events in the song. So that song is really growing on me.
In summary, great album, great artist, buy this album and support good country music!

I am not one to typically review music, I much prefer to just listen to it. I just wanted to say that I love this guy's voice. I will be cliched and say that he sounds like a young George Strait (because he does) but his voice is his own. I am really liking this CD, and I think he's got some serious talent and this won't be the last we hear from him!

After some thought, I finally decided to pick up this CD because I really liked "A Little More Country Than That". This is a great debut CD, my faves are "Roll With It" "Don't Ask Me About A Woman", and "The Way Love Looks".
I also realized how much he sounds like George Strait! He might be the next George if his future work has material like this! 5 Stars!!

Nashville finally signs someone that is actually a country music artist. This guy is great! I feel like it's been 10 years or more since we actually heard a traditional country artist. There have been quite a few new artist over the years who started out country, but Nashville slowly changed them (album by album) to a more contemporary sound. This guy is a star, but I hope he sticks to singing true songs from his heart and not what Nashville tries to push down his throat.

Great price, great new artist. Real solid debut country album. Not a bad song on this CD and he actually sounds a lot like a young George Strait - which is always a good thing. If you like a classic country sound with some pedal steel guitar, which is lacking in any crappy Sugarland or pop star Taylor Swift song, then you will love this CD. No pop country music on this one.
