Considering this bat is for a young player many of the quantifiable measures of bat quality for older players aren't particularly relevant. That said, at this price point this bat is a step up in terms of materials. Made from 7050 series aluminum which is a step up (stronger, stiffer alloy aluminium) from the entry level bats priced from $20 to $40.Really the most important thing in choosing a bat is that you get the right length and weight for your child. There are many charts that point you in the right direction regarding length but no real good information on appropriate weight. Obviously its much harder to categorize strength by size alone. The only way I was finally able to decide was to take my son to the sporting goods store and let him hold and swing several bats. I narrowed the length very quickly using the chart then just had him try several weights to see what was the best mix for him. I didn't want to go too light as I want him to build arm strength but not so heavy that he would become frustrated. As you do research you'll notice that at this level there are very few technical changes to these bats from season to season. So it pays to look for deals on "last years" model. Which is exactly what we have here. This is the 2009 version and aside from the paint it is no different from the 2010 model. So you can save $20 or more buying the "old model". I saw very little difference in finish or visible quality across any of the bats from Easton even ones that exceeded $100. Easton bats all appeared to have excellent finish and materials. So once you dial in on size and weight you really can't make a wrong choice here. The likelihood that you, much less your child, can tell the difference between two different types of aluminium is remote at best. PROS: Easton Quality Excellent fit and finish Easton Warranty CONS: Made in China Fluff product descriptions focus on features but don't translate to benefits for parent or player.

I purchased this bat for my son when he was 9 and just entering little league. He's been gradually overcoming low muscle tone since birth so he needed a long yet light bat to help ensure he could move the bat around quickly enough to make the pitch. Using this model at 29/16.5, his batting has improved and he's able to get on base but I've noticed for two seasons now, this bat has also been very popular by his team mates. Even the big hitters that have no problem with a heavier bat are using this one and calling it their lucky bat. Half way through it's second season, this bat looks like an old reliable battle axe with white leather scuffs all over it from where it crushed various pitches. This well loved bat is a great piece of equipment at a great price.

I purchased this 27/14.5 oz bat for my 6 year old. He is between T-ball and Little League so we wanted to get him a bat he could generate enough bat speed and cover the plate when hitting off the machine. The bat has done just that--I would recommend it to anyone with a child who is getting ready for little league.

Our grandson is a Little Leaguer who was thrilled with the bat for a Christmas present. Of course he won't get to try it out until spring!
