Boys did not like wearing the shirt.

Sure it might get hot or more uncomfortable than not waering it but it is a trade off for safety.

I ordered a larger and it fits nice and looks like there is enough protection.

Buy your child's current size. My 10 year old son has been playing as pitcher for a year and half now. In his starting season as pitcher, he took a ball to the throat that popped off the rubber. You never know what can happen in the game of baseball and that is what prompted me to give my son all the protection I possibly can. He has worn the same size torso tection shirt for 3 seasons and it has been great. It's now starting to come apart some but we got every penny out of it. I do not agree that it is too bulky. I guess when they are at the point of out growing it, it would be too tight, but until then, it is offering an extensive amount of coverage while still being flexable. It is covering all the fragile bones and vital organs, protects the player from bad hops, wild pitches and even sliding in base running (top of hips). Outside of an iron cage and bubble wrap, I really can't see a better protective shirt being made. Again, my son pitches. He must be able to stretch, seperate and throw hard, so if it were too tight, he wouldn't be able to wear it. I would definitely suggest this product and I will be buying another one the next size up in the next few months.

Only way it is going to blow out and puff up is if it is too big. This shirt has to fit TIGHTLY as a compression shirt and likely you need to order a size smaller than your kid normally wears. Your son should have to struggle to squeez into it and not just pull it on like a regular shirt. Kids wear their regular shirt underneath,so what do you expect if it is not skin tight? Sure it might get hot or more uncomfortable than not waering it but it is a trade off for safety. My son wore for baseball and is going to now use it for tackle football under his pads. Sorry, I get frustrated trying to do research on Amazon and everytime I see a good product with a high number of stars I am still troubled by the negative reviews and forced to dig further. I have found in most cases you can dimiss the ouliers as people not knowing what they are talking about or how to set soemthing up or they bought with a certain expectation without doing due diligence.

Purchased for my son for baseball season. Fits well and provides lots of padding - in my opinion better than just a heart guard - protects a larger area.

I really have nothing negative to say about this. It's nicely made and the padding gives exactly the amount of protection I was expecting for my Rookie Little Leaguer. However, I wanted to give you an idea of the sizing. My son is a couple months shy of 8 yrs old, is very slim, about 55lbs., tall for his age, usually wears a boys size 7/8 (M) t-shirt with a little room to grow, so I thought the youth small would be fine and he could possibly get away with wearing it 2 seasons. Well, it swallows him up and the pads that should be on the right and left lower sides actually protect the side area of his thighs since the shirt is so long. So just keep this in mind when ordering. Obviously every child is built differently and if my son was husky and not so thin, this would probably fit nicely. While I'm not disappointed in the shirt itself, I will just put it away for future use and order one in an XS.

My nine year old won't wear it. It is a great concept, but way too bulky. Lose the hip and shoulder pads and you've got a winner.

I no longer worry about my son being hit with a ball at his games or practices anymore. This gives him great protection!

This shirt is great for helping in the fear of those kids who think getting hit with the ball will hurt. It has a lot of padding! My son got hit head on with a ball in the stomach and said he barely felt it. I just wish it came in xsmall because small was still a little too big for my 8 year old (who is the size of a 10 year old).

This thing is too bulky. I think good protection but hard for them to wear and move comfortably. Not recommended for skinnier children.
