4.0 out of 5 stars It's great fun and the price was right December 10, 2011

Earlier reviewers were harsh; as a gourmet cook, I was not looking for much here, but the writers did a good job and gave me a few new ideas. It was well put-together, and the next time I picnic on the beach watching the penguins (we're living Down Under at present), I'll definitely use some of them. All in all, I'm glad I didn't actually pay for it but it's worth having.

5.0 out of 5 stars Appetizers cook book December 28, 2011

Awesome and just in time for New Years.
I have 'friends' in during the New Years and am always looking for a new snack food. A quick flip through this book and I decided it was the one to ring in 2012.
Recommended by me.

this is ok... if you have a million things in your pantry. None of the recipes were very pretty to look at.

2.0 out of 5 stars Deleted It - Useless For Me December 1, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really like the idea of this book, especially this time of year when I'm expecting to be doing some entertaining for friends, family, and even coworkers. However, this book falls short on the execution for me. Perhaps my expectations were invalid because I was unfamiliar with "Instructables" before downloading this freebie.

There are 18 recipes in this "book", but if you've ever been to a wedding, a dinner party, or seen either of the two on TV, I'd say you're already aware of most everything in here. The only faintly unique thing I saw was in the "Simple and Elegant Wedding Appetizers" section. I don't need two recipes for baked brie and two for bruschetta... just give me a "variations" section on those recipes. There are no servings on the recipes so you can only guestimate how much you're going to end up with, though some are obvious (i.e. 12 crackers = 12 servings).

There are no chapters (that you can use the 5-way to click to), but there is a Table of Contents at the back of the book with linked chapters that you can use to click to specific sections. Why is the TOC at the end of the book? Is that so I don't see that I already know these recipes when I download the sample, or is there another reason? (Honestly, I'd be curious to know.)

If you are expecting anything more than some recipes, don't. I thought there might be a few tips about how to organize a table or trays to deal with warm and cold appetizers... you know, how to keep from having traffic jams at the buffet table, how to keep warm appetizers warm so the cheese stays melty, how to fix it so people can get one serving of an item without having their fingers all over 6 other servings, etc. There's also no advice on prepping things (i.e.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent appetizer cookbook March 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is clearly not a gourmet cookbook, but it is an excellent, easy to read cookbook for those of us who are not gourmet chefs. The book is clear, easy to follow, providing a list of ingredients that are readily available, and filled with useful pictures which are helpful. Finally, the book has easy to use websites throughout for additional or alternative recipes for many appetizers. Great job!

These were easy appetizer recipes. It's not the best, it's not the worst, but it was definitely worth the price!

3.0 out of 5 stars You Get What You Pay For :) February 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have to admit I was disappointed in this book but then I reminded myself it was free. The Instructables Books are hit or miss I think. I found the recipes here pretty ordinary. And I personally don't like pictures of each step when the dish is simple like Bacon-Wrapped Weenies :) I did find one recipe that looked good - Stuffed Croissants. But other than that none of the recipes really looked all that appetizing. I've been trying to eat healthier food across the board. One book I found with really delicious and healthy appetizers is 31 Delicious and Nutritious Vegetarian Appetizer Recipes (The Ultimate Guide to Vegetarian Cooking) That book has some great dips and finger foods that I've used both for myself and for entertaining. As I said in the title - you get what you pay for :)
