5.0 out of 5 stars Calculating On The Kindle Is A Breeze Now January 22, 2011
Verified Purchase
If you're not a math genius (like my husband), this is a great little app for your Kindle. All the basic functions are there, as well as percentage, square root, 1/x, memory, etc. You can also see the history of your calculation. In addition, results extend many decimal places (one result I got showed the answer to 16 decimal places). The numbers and symbols all match up nicely to corresponding keys on the Kindle.

Sure, if you want to figure the orbit of Pluto around the Sun in the year 2525, this is not the calculator you would use.....although my husband might be able to figure out a way. But for everyday needs, this is a good little calculator. Sitting somewhere shopping at Amazon on your Kindle? Just use the calculator to figure how much all those great books will cost!

Someone on here said not to buy the calculator, and to use some secret method on your Kindle. Well, I tried his method and my Kindle froze up and I had to re-start it. I then came here and bought the calculator, as I'd rather pay 99 cents for an EASY TO USE calculator than to attempt some alternative method that is a pain to use and causes problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful addition to your Kindle January 23, 2011

The person who gave this little application a bad ranking may be a geek and can hack his Kindle. There is a way to do that. But most of us are not so gifted nor do we want to be. Easier for us to pay .99 and be done with it. That said, this is a nice calculator. I especially like having the running tape. That's better than any pocket calculator. In fact, one of the bad features to the otherwise handy little pocket calculators is that there is no running tape, so you can easily lose where you're at if you have a lot of figures.

It takes a bit of practice to get proficient at this calculator. But it's really nice. It's the size of the screen. So just about anyone can easily see it and work with it. It's a fully functional financial calculator. I find it useful when I'm looking up a price for a prospective client and then need to figure the bottom line.

The one thing I'd like to see is a way to make it pop up. Also, perhaps sometime Amazon will add a number pad to the Kindle. But that might be getting away from the way the Kindle was made to be used, to read books.

I read a lot of personal financial books and books on economics and often wish I had a calculator on the Kindle. So I expect I'll get a lot of use out of this.

I initially gave it four stars because it doesn't pop up. But after thinking about it, I figured that might not be a need of lots of people. Admittedly, it is somewhat important to me. I know I have a popup calculator on my Palm device.

So, when you're reading a book and need to figure something, you have to get out of the book and into the calculator and then back. But I know that it might not be possible to develop an app for the Kindle that does that and so it's not fair to judge it based on that criteria.

Otherwise, this is an excellent tool and I recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy Calculator App - Recommended January 30, 2011
Verified Purchase
This "Easy Calculator" adds a simple calculator application and fills a void I wasn't even aware existed since it gets used almost every time my Kindle is on. Here are my observations:

Pros -
+ Looks like a traditional calculator on the screen
+ Convenient to access
+ Inexpensive (a relative term, I know)

Cons -
- Key mapping has a slight learning curve, but easy enough once you get the hang of it

I am very happy to have found this useful app!

Highly Recommended!

EDIT (Nov 30 2011) -- This is one of the few programs I could load onto a Kindle Touch. Works quite well.

Easy Calculator (this page) by Mobigloo is an alternative to the competing program Calculator by 7 Dragons, for calculators on the Kindle. I decided to check it out both.

You'll likely do better ignoring any written reviews, and looking at the screenshots that are provided for each program. In those, you'll be able to see the layouts that are provide.

This program Easy Calculator
PRO - Multiple lines of history provided.
PRO - Follows Kindle numbering.
PRO - A (add) S (subtract) X (Times)
CON - No trig functions.

The competing program Calculator
PRO - Has Sin, Con, Tan, x^y
CON - Only one line of output and tracking.
CON - A history exists, but it's on a separate page, and multiple clicks are needed to leave it.
CON - does not follow default Kindle numbers.
CON - Placement of function keys non-intuitive

For the moment, I'll give the nod to Easy Calculator (this program). I like the layout and the onscreen history better.

But look at the screenshots, and make your own decision for which layout you prefer. Note that Kindle also has a built in calculator, but it's very, very basic. If you want help with balancing a checkbook, this is the one to get.

THREE people essentially refused to review this because you can get the kindle to calculate for you as is. Geeze people, it's not like you have to put a second mortgage on your house to afford this. You get ALL the functions of a typical calculator including calculating percentage, scientific notation, square roots, and storing in memory. It's a little awkward at first to have to press the letters to get it to do what you want, but the mapping is always visible and you get used to it pretty quickly. MUCH easier then the "hack" that they recommend. It's a little slow in giving you results compared to your pocket calculator but that is to be expected. You wouldn't use this for your statistics exam in college, but if you carry your kindle with you a lot, say to a restaurant, it's well worth it to have this. And I really wish that people who write reviews here would actually start reviewing the product instead of explaining why they can't or won't. That seems to be the latest trend at and it's really getting annoying....
