This review is from: Easy Christmas Cut-Up Cakes for Kids (Kindle Edition)
In an attempt to make the review more "hands on" I picked one of the cakes from the book and created my own "Gift Box Cake" yesterday.
I found the instructions easy to follow. However, I did notice that as I dug deeper into each step some of the details were missing. For instance, on the cake I made, Melissa said to make a bow for the top of the cake but she did not give step-by-step instructions on how to actually make the bow. I was a little disappointed because I had never made a bow before out of "Fruit by the Foot" or any other material and felt this was a crucial step that should have been elaborated on. Luckily, I figured it out. Still, the "Little Gift" is so easy that I have no idea why I never thought of it myself. You get a breakdown of what's needed to create the cake design. For instance, the Candy Cane uses 1 8-inch round cake pan and 1 8-inch square cake pan, a box of white cake mix, a can of white frosting, red "Fruit by the Foot", and red licorice ropes. Then you get a line drawing (or template) of how to cut the cakes once baked, then step-by-step instructions on how to cut the cake, assemble the pieces, and decorate the cake. I received a complimentary copy to review. |
