This review is from: Easy Cross-Stitch Pattern-a-Day: 2011 Day-to-Day Calendar (Calendar)
I recently picked up the new 2011 Cross Stitch Calendar. I was nervious at first because of all the negative reviews on Amazon, but then I took a chance. What I saw was this is indeed not the calendar of years before, but it is not all gloom and doom, either. There are positive and negative changes to this edition.
First, the positive. * As usual, Elizabeth Surlock has come up with some pretty and innovative designs. The problem that many are having is that there are 150, much less than the 260 of other years. And yes, for those who have bought the calendar before, there were 260 - 5 each week- NOT one a day in those, either. Now, there are 3 images a week, and those images vary in size. I like the fact that they do. After all, you can only frame so many 5X7 inch cross stitches before you get bored. Now there are bands for towels and bibs, images to stitch on clothes, book marks and more. These are MUCH easier for use as gifts. MUCH! * I also like the fact that there is now a beginning section on how to do the cross stitch. That makes it better to give as a gift to someone just starting out. * The images now tell the inspiration behind the design and give the colors of floss right then and there, no checking the weekend recap to find out which flosses to use (which was annoying) * Surlock also gives floss substitution suggestions and use suggestions for most designs. Now, the negative. * There are 100 less images than in years before, and that is a bit of a shock. I always thought this calendar was the best bargain in cross stitch. I still think it is a good value, but I am less excited. And other things.... * I also was a bit taken back that there are some weeks dedicated to an entire theme. One week is nothing but irises, and I love them, but given the fewer numbers of designs, more variety would have been welcomed. Over all, this is still a very good value, and if it were packaged as a book, I think there would be fewer complaints. Yes, change is hard, but not horrible. Recommended for anyone who likes cross stitch or is interested in cross stitch.

I was very disappointed in this product. I have purchased this calendar in previous years and was very pleased with it. Having 2 days displayed at one time is of little value to me.

DISAPPOINTED!! I have the last eight cross stitch pattern-a-day calendars. I have always loved them. However, the 2011 calendar is HORRIBLE. The box is very cheaply made, it is smaller (doesn't line up with the others on a shelf), patterns are for very tiny projects, and only a fracture of the patterns of years past. It is a HUGE disappointment after looking forward to receiving it.

I wish I'd read the reviews of this calendar. It is so inferior to the the previous years. Aside from the fact that similar patterns can be found in any basic cross stitch book, there are only approximately 1/2 the patterns that are usually included. I love the previous calendars but I doubt I'll purchase next year's.

Huge Disappointment,
This review is from: Easy Cross-Stitch Pattern-a-Day: 2011 Day-to-Day Calendar (Calendar)
I like others have purchased the cross stitch pattern a day calendars in the past. I was very disappointed to see that there are half the designs as in previous years because 2 days are shared by the same chart. In the past I haven't been able to wait to stitch designs and have pulled pages months in advance. I have wanted to stitch at least half of the designs in the past and this one I may want to stitch 20 throughout the entire year.
If next year's calendar is like the 2011 I will not be purchasing it. Come on Accord Publishing what are you doing!

Not what I expected.,

This calendar used to be great-a design each day (with one for the weekend), larger designs, better quality box and design. Unfortunately, this calendar seems to have gone the way of too many products these days: the cost is the same but the content and quality has gone down hill. When I purchase a picture a day calendar, I'm buying it for just that: a picture a day. I don't mind having one for both weekend days, but the other days should each have their own picture. That's what I'm paying for. I like some of the designs, but feel like there are way too many borders and tiny peices. I'm just not inspired by it. Last year, there were so many projects I wanted to do. This year, not so much. I don't think I will be buying the 2012 calendar, and I will miss the calendar for what it used to be. I wish the author would go back to the old format, maybe take this year to think of enough designs to fill a whole year the way it used to be, or get a team together to do that. 2012 looks to be the same as 2011 and I'm not willing to pay for the same thing I had this year, which was a big disappointment.

I have bought a cross-stitch-a-day calendar every year since they first showed up. I am SO dissapointed with the 2011 version. I understand putting 2 days on one IF it is the weekend, but this year the publisher put 2 days together on WEEKDAYS and 3 days on weekends. In the end, you only get 156 actual cross stitch designs, WAY LESS THAN HALF the number of days in a year. I have gone to the company's website to complain, but could not find any link for comments, or customer service. Maybe the plan for 2012 will be 1 design per week, same high price, same untrue "a-day" name. Complete rip off. Wish there was a lower score than 1 star on Amazon's rating system.
Oh, the designs for this year (2011) are no where near the value of previous years. It rather looks like someone took a project-in-an-hour-book of designs and gave them each their own page. Not worth the money, a let down from previous years calendars.

I have to agree with other reviewers about being disappointed with the number with designs presented in this calendar, and also their charm and general appeal. I'm not sure there is anything I'd really like to stitch, unlike other years when every day was something I was ready to buy floss for. Still, there are many good quick projects for gifts, etc. If you like cross stitch, it may be a worthwhile purchase.

I normally buy the Pattern-a-Day to have on my desk at work. I love cross stitch and its a nice treat each morning to change the sheet for that day and see the new design for the day.
I am very disappointed in the quality of the 2011 Pattern-a-Day calendar. It is much smaller, the designs aren't as nice, there is one design for two days (how is this a "pattern a day") and overall it's just not the quality of the past calendars. If I had actually seen this before I purchased it, I never would have bought it. Needless to say, I am very disappointed in this calendar. |
