Tyler rushed out the door with his dinosaur lunchbox. He was in a hurry because he didn't want his Mom to have to drive him to school and waste energy. He sat on the bus seat thinking about what they had learned about energy in school. People use it in many different ways, but not always efficiently. As the school bus drove along the road it was easy to see that cars, trucks, and motorcycles create pollution because vehicles "that use oil energy make the air dirty." Saving the Earth was very important to Tyler and his classmates.

Another kind of energy that Tyler learned about was electricity. His Dad told him that their electricity "comes from the power plant" and that they burned coal. Anyone could easily see that clouds of dirty air floated out over the city when the plant was running. At school Tyler learned about different kinds of energy that would not harm the Earth. In this book you will learn about the different kinds of clean energy, how we should try to conserve or save it, what Tyler did when he was on the Power Patrol, and things he tries to do to "save the planet."

This is an excellent book to teach young children ways to conserve energy. Many children are aware of what it means to go "green" and/or have an interest in saving the planet. This beginning chapter book is is an easy way to learn about energy and how we can conserve it. The book is not expansive and does not go into depth on the topic, but rather is an introductory text. The information can be used as a stepping stone to a school report. There are numerous informative circular sidebars that add to the topic being discussed. For example there is one on how coal was formed millions of years ago. In the back of the book is an index, a glossary, instructions for "Play the Power Patrol Game, and additional recommended book and website resources to explore.

My 7 yr. old daughter just finished the section about pollution in school and she came home ready to do better (and make us do better also). This book helped her learn even more ways to help the environment
