This is not a low carb cookbook. Ingredients used are: All-purpose flour,regular sugar. All the type of ingredients that a true low-carb follower would never use. I am on maintenace and the amount of carbs in these receipes would send me into insulin highs and result in cravings. They don't even suggest sugar free products when they could be used, ex. maple syrup and jams for glazes. This is just a regular cookbook that would have to be adjusted to meet a low-carb lifestyle.

This would be a good cookbook for diabetics who still eat flour, potatoes and sugar, BUT for those of us following a diet such as Atkins these recipes are useless! One recipe called for 1 1/2 CUPS of flour!!! I about fell on the floor. And a word to those people that think diets such as Atkins are all fat all the time: 1. You need to eat higher levels of fat since that is your energy source on this diet. Low-carb AND low-fat is a DANGEROUS combination. 2. Having said that, you do not eat bacon at every meal. I eat chicken, fish and veggies, too - I just don't freak out if the restaurant puts butter sauce on my veggies.

My mother was recently diagnosed with diabetes, and I needed a low-carbohydrate cookbook to use when she visits for dinner. I bought this one, based on the reputation of Better Homes and Gardens cookbooks. I was very impressed. All of the recipes I tried have been delicious, and the carbohydrate counts for each recipe are clearly listed. The recipes are so good I even cook some of them for myself, when my mother isn't visiting!
