I read her two other books in this series, Odd Mom Out, and Mrs Perfect, and enjoyed them. I continually checked for the release date of this book, and was excited when the Kindle Edition showed up. I didn't even bother to download the sample chapter. Why should I? I had read her two previous book. Now I wish that I had. I could have saved myself $10.00.
I can have a pity party with my own thoughts. I don't need to read over and over someone else's thoughts about how they want someone, but there will be never be someone as wonderful as her dead husband, and it is so hard to go home to an empty house, the special house that she bought for her husband and herself, even though she bought it after he died. And she doesn't have anyone really special because her dead husband was so wonderful, but maybe if she hadn't put all her efforts into her work, then she would have kids, a husband and if she hadn't dated boy toys then she might have someone, but wait, there will never be someone as wonderful as her dead husband. And now her life work is coming crashing down and it is just not fair. She gave it her everything. The horrible network wants her to get plastic surgery because her numbers are down, but she can't face the knife.
I started the book, and about fifty pages in, I really started to get worried. I had excused the pity party as setting the scene, but it honestly continued for most of the book. We go from how terrible it is to have lost the one love of her life and her childhood situation, to how terrible it is that the one man she could now love is not interested in her. In between, is dialogue that she more than a pretty face, and she not going to go down without a fight. They can't make her have surgery.
If you are a fan of Ms. Porter's Harlequin Romances, then I suspect you will enjoy this book. If you want a book that deals with more than looks, and a desire for a husband and a family then this isn't the book for you.
