5.0 out of 5 stars bird block
this is a very good product. i laid it on top of 4 metal fence posts at the corners of my strawberry bed. it is surprisingly strong. it gets snagged on just about everything, but does not rip. it keeps the birds and cats out of my strawberries. i will be buying more in the future.

This worked extremely well at keeping the birds away from the fruit on our plum and peach trees. Although some birds did learn to get at the fruit by flying in from underneath. My hope was to bundle and tie the netting around the base of the tree to prevent this, but I couldn't. I couldn't because the mesh of the netting catching on anything and everything. The mesh catches on every twig end. The mesh catches on every little nub on every branch. And just when you think you're making some headway trying to get a section untangled, you'll discover that the mesh has also caught on two shirt buttons, your watch band and your belt buckle. So I eventually lost all patience at getting the netting positioned so that I could bundle and tie it around the base of the tree.

Hopefully, all your fruit will ripen at the same time, as you'll even have almost as much trouble trying to get the netting off the tree; that you'll never attempt to put it back on to protect unripe fruit. As I was trying to remove it, I couldn't let any section that I had previously untangled sag anywhere else, or a new battle would ensue (it was even snagging with things on the ground).

I do like the way the netting performs though, so next year I'll try either of these experiments below.

Experiment 1: Slide a large plastic sheet over the tree. Then slide the netting over the plastic and secure one side of the netting. Slide the plastic sheet out from under the netting on the side that isn't secured.

Experiment 2: Buy two bottles of wine. Serve the wine to 3 invited friends. Secure each corner of a netting sheet to a long pole. Have all 4 people hold the poles high with the netting stretched tight. Walk and position the netting so it is directly over the tree as I want it. Drop the poles. Pray that the netting landed where it was supposed to!

Stronger mesh than others I've used. Keeps the robins, jays and oreoles out of my cherry tree and would work equally well on raspberry bushes. Easy to untangle if the wind pushes it into a pile. Appears substantial enough to least several seasons if stored properly. The most cost-effective solution I've found to a persistent bird problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Gardener 602 BirdBlock Netting 14' x 45', July 23, 2010

We have been using this netting for a few years now and are very impressed with it. I just bought two more rolls of it. We also use the 14' x 14' size.

I have fig trees and the birds do luh-huuuv those figs. Wouldn't share with me at all, so we used PVC piping to make a tall frame to put over the fig tree out back. We used plastic ties to secure the netting to the frame, cut the length to fit, with just enough to pool at the bottom, used what was cut off for the sides of the frame and for the past two years, it has done a great job and would have lasted at least couple more years, but the netting on one end got sucked into the mower and that was all she wrote! Even so, it only wrecked that end of the netting, so we attached a 14' x 14' net to fill in for the part we had to cut off and the protection is back in action. The new netting will take its place next year and the large part that's left will be put to use elsewhere.

The mower is fine, but you should have seen the netting that was caught in it. No way in this universe is there a way to untangle it once it gets caught in the mower--or the weed-eater. Yes, that happened as well--before we made the frame. The frame has small hooks in the uprights to hold the netting up off the ground for weed-eating and mowing, if hubby would get me out there to raise the netting. (I have a feeling he will definitely do that in the future...) There are two 14' x 14' nets over the fig tree out front, as well.

I love this netting. Wouldn't want to do without it. Yes, it snags on EVERYTHING snaggable and I've learned to never wear anything with buttons on it when I'm picking figs, or working with the netting, but it is very strong and does the job very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm Using This a Little Differently..., June 2, 2010
This review is from: Easy Gardener 602 BirdBlock 14-by-45-Feet Protective Netting (Lawn & Patio)
Okay, I'm not using this netting like the other folk, but perhaps you too are looking for a solution to THAT deer that's so bold he doesn't hesitate to come up onto the porch to nibble the delicious buds off your potted plants.

My particular problem this year wasn't that, but it was that someone was dining on the new garden I put in the front yard. Now, you can't exactly put up deer fencing -- at least not attractively-- at the front of your lawn, but you can protect your plants, it turns out, with this netting.

What I did was cut the netting into small swaths which I lay over the plants. LOL, it apparently has an unpleasant feel on the tongue. The dear deer hasn't even eaten the lettuces I've got tucked in here and there. And the best part is that the netting is invisible. At least I can't see it.

So try this out and see if it works for you. It's allowed us to grow plants that none of our neighbors dare try here in deer-country Virginia.

One note of caution: You need to check periodically to make sure that blossoms don't work themselves into the netting. I've had to work some free so they could open.

Pam T~

happy gardener

I'll report back if there's a failure at any point

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice product, March 23, 2010

I purchased BirdBlock netting after having some of my strawberries sacrificed to the birds that frequent my garden. The net performs well, providing protection to my strawberries but also the new lettuce seed i put down.

Read the other reviews because the net does get caught frequently when first placing it. However, after first laying it over my garden i have had no problems since. This is definitely not something that would prevent me from purchasing this product again. A tip to make initial placement less stressful - have a patient person help you :)

The bag the net comes packaged in also has some nice ideas for using the product. I used the stake+string method and it has worked well.

Another benefit i have noticed is that if placed correctly this net can keep large snails out of the garden. I have found some caught in the folds of the net.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works, but I will never use it again, May 19, 2010
This review is from: Easy Gardener 602 BirdBlock 14-by-45-Feet Protective Netting (Lawn & Patio)
I managed to get this stuff wrapped around all my fruit trees last year (quite a job - it snagged on all the branches and even my buttons, but with the help of another person and two long poles, we did it.) I guess it worked well enough but I will never use it again since it doesn't just keep birds away, it traps them. I managed to spot and free a bluebird and a cardinal that had become entangled, before they died of thirst or were found by cats. But then one day I found a bluebird all dried up hanging from the netting - poor thing, what a horrible way to die. :( I want to protect my fruit, but I don't want to kill songbirds, certainly not slowly over a period of days. So I am going to try some of those products that are supposed to merely scare them away, not kill them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but thin, September 18, 2009

Good to place over plants and leave in place or move minimally. Strands are somewhat thin & if they get caught on something, they break. Easy to cut into smaller sizes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another use!, January 24, 2012
This review is from: Easy Gardener 602 BirdBlock 14-by-45-Feet Protective Netting (Lawn & Patio)
Oh sure; I use it to cover my tomato plants and apple tree and as stated in most all reviews, it works great. What I REALLY like is...I use this stuff to line my cat litter box! Just lay it in the empty and clean litter box (draped over the sides); Then pour in the cat litter of your choice. When time to clean out the box, just grab the sides of the birdblock netting and lift. The large 'solids' easily come out and the still good litter sifts back down in the box for re-use. Put the waste in to a plastic grocery bag and dispose. There is actually a similar product advertized on tv doing the same thing, however you only get 14 pieces of netting at about 20 X the price. Cool huh?

This product works perfect. We have fruit (orange trees) that never produced fruit because the birds ate all of the little sprouting oranges. Saw this product on line. Its really quite a large net. we made a nice protective enclosure and now we actually have oranges this year !!!
