No more pigeons in our warehouse,

My company had a huge problem with pigeons roosting in our warehouse. We decided to buy a different owl at first, a statue that didn't move. But after 3 days, the pigeons had figured out it wasn't real.
This electronic owl's movement and hooting really did the trick. I would say it is quite loud if you wanted to use it at a house or apartments. Also, the sensors are really too sensitive. We eventually turned off the hooting because it was too annoying, and it didn't seem to make a difference to the pigeons--they still stayed out.

Neat but loud.,
This review is from: Easy Gardener 8021 Garden Defense Electronic Sensor Owl (Lawn & Patio)
I have a real problem with starlings nesting above my apartment's deck. The mess they create is horrible. So I need some type of deterrent.
This little guy is real cool looking but there are a few things I do not like. The hooting is very loud and because I have apartments below me and to the side it would be an annoyance to my neighbours. Luckily there is a mute button setting, but you cannot mute the sound of the owl's head turning which is also very loud. You can hear his head turning with ease 20 feet away. There are four movement sensors at the base of the owl. The sensors are not of the greatest quality. Sometimes it takes a lot of movement for the owl to notice. The owl takes three AA batteries and is mounted using screws in three holes on the base. I actually strapped him down with twine so I can move him about. I do not know if its the owl or just coincedence but I have seen and heard far less birds than before I got the owl, but I wonder if just a cheaper owl statue would have done the job.

Electronic Owl Defense,

We bought this as a gift for a friend. She was having problems with a nasty little bird messing up her newly redone porch furniture. She was almost to the point of automatic weapon fire to rid herself of the bird.
She had tried numerous other options and nothing worked. Since the owl has been on the job there has been no sign of the bird. She can't say enough about how she loves her owl.

Well, maybe this owl would have done the trick, but Amazon's vendor threw it in a HUGE box with absolutely no packing materials. It banged and bounced its way here and arrived broken (big shocker). What a waste of my time and money. My advice is to buy this from a local store where you can test it out before buying. And whatever you do, don't buy from the vendor ANTOnline.

I found the range to be limited and short. The batteries did not last more than a few days when owl was set to both motion and sound.I gathered some stuff from Radio Shack and converted the owl from battery power to AC so I can just plug it in. No more battery problems. So far, it has kept the Osprey off my boat here on the Potomac River...Easy Gardener 8021 Electronic Scarecrow Garden Defense OwlEasy Gardener Garden Defense Electronic Owl

The first one of these I received did not work, I returned it and received a replacement. That one did not work either. I contacted the manufacturer and was told they have had problems with these. I gave up and returned the second one. As part of the process I discovered that these are not designed to work at night. I didn't see that mentioned anywhere, and I'm not sure how effective this could be against some critters that are nocturnal. I also want to mention that the mounting arrangement for the base is nearly impossible. The mounting holes are inboard from the body so you can not get a screwdriver on the screw heads to tighten them. Avoid this item.

Works as expected...pretty cool,
By John V (New Rochelle, NY) - See all my reviews You should move it around your yard every so often so birds don't get used to it, and it's best to put it out before the birds make your yard a regular eating spot. I think it kept most birds from eating my grass seed, but it could have been a coincidence. I'm not sure if it will keep rodents away since that wasn't what I was looking for, but birds are pretty easily freaked out by it. It's an interesting lawn ornament, too. It would hoot at people walking by in the street, which usually got a positive response. I guess if you don't expect the world from it, and you use it along with other methods, it's worth a try. I like it.

Big disapointment,

I ordered one of these Garden Owls some time ago.
It seems that they have a batch of bad Owls audio wise. They don't hoot! I sent the first one back and recieved a replacement with no problem. It wouldn't hoot either! I called you folks about it and you suggested that I call the company that makes them. I did and they were very nice about it. They sent me another owl about a month ago and it worked great up until 3 days ago and then it quit hooting too! I've gave up on these Owls although the people were very good about replacing them! I've haven't bothered to call anyone about this last owl yet, don't think that the product is any good!

Skip this product,

The motion sensors are cheap and too sensitive. Most sensors are set off by heat + motion. These just go off with a slight breeze. So it was constantly turning on, I had to silence the sound because it was getting annoying.
Batteries drain quickly. It only uses 3 AA batteries. It is very light and unstable and won't stand up on it's own. Blows over with the slightest breeze. They should have made it to hold D batteries. That would have weighted down the base and you wouldn't have too change batteries so often. You are supposed to mount it to something with screws. I should have done that, but then you can't get to the battery compartment without unscrewing it from the base. And you have to change batteries often. After having my owl for 2 weeks, it was blown off a 2' ledge onto the lawn and broke the switch and is now inoperable. I am going to re-wire it to run on a plug-in transformer. Then it can swivel it's little exorcist head around all day long if it wants! And it will! I still won't be able to use the sound mode. The hooting all day long is annoying, and the neighbors were wondering what the noise was.
