The book focuses on the Microsoft suite of Internet tools, including Outlook Express, Internet Explorer, and FrontPage Express--although it covers CuteFTP and other non-Microsoft software, too. Technical stuff is addressed, such as how to select an Internet service provider (ISP) and gain access to newsgroups. But, more than that, this book shows you how to achieve real goals, like sending greeting cards and improving your connectivity speed.
Easy Internet does make the mistake of trying to document Web sites (Blue Mountain Arts, Deja.com, and others); because their interfaces change more frequently than even software products, such an approach can make a book obsolete in a hurry. Fortunately, there's not much of that, and the how-to procedures are supremely easy to follow. The number of each step appears twice: once near the text that tells you what to do, and once to indicate the key interface element that you need to use. --David Wall
Topics covered: Navigating the Internet by using a computer that runs Microsoft Windows, Outlook Express, Internet Explorer, FrontPage Express, and other popular programs. Accessing and using popular Web sites, chat rooms, file archives, and newsgroups.

A Great Pictorial Guide to Getting Online!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Easy Internet (Paperback)
The Internet has truly caught the hearts and minds of millions of people. Many are experiencing the thrill and benefits of this exciting form of communication. Every day many people join the online community to promote a business, share information, or to simply engage in dialogue with others. Joe Kraynak has written Easy Internet to offer new and potential users an excellent pictorial guide to using the latest software to climb on board and make productive use of the Internet. When I first picked up this book I thought to myself, "not another glorified kiddy book." Upon further examination I was quite surprised to see that this book could be used by anyone desiring an easier way to learn about getting online and finding his or her way around. Sub-titled, See it Done, Do it Yourself, the book is intended to show people how to use Internet programs by example. The book contains many wonderfully colored graphics. Quality screen and menu shots are pro! vided throughout the book to show exactly where to go and what to click to accomplish something. Hands and arrows point the way and all readers have to do is follow! The author walks readers through the processes of setting up communications software, getting online, browsing the Web, sending e-mail, using FTP, creating Web pages, and setting up a Website. The author incorporates the use of the latest Internet browsers, Internet Explorer 4 and Netscape 4, demonstrating to his readers how they operate. Other popular programs such as CuteFTP and WinZip are featured a well. A helpful glossary of Internet terms is provided to ease the learning process. The book measures 8" by 10" and is well written with the average person on the street in mind. Children and adults of all ages can benefit from the use of this book. In fact, this book would greatly benefit senior citizens who have shown an interest in online activity in recent years. The book would make an e! xcellent textbook for classroom use and a fine gift for the! beginner. Highly recommended!

This review is from: Easy Internet (4th Edition) (Paperback)
After reading this book, I find too many illustrations and not enough explanations of the various procedures.
