Creative juicing recipes, January 3, 2010
This review is from: Easy Juicing: The Best 100 Juices, Crushes, Smoothies, Coolers, and Quenchers (Paperback)
I picked this book up at a local Jamba Juice without paging through it first just because the cover was so - pretty and orange it looked good enough to eat (or drink!) I'd just purchased my first juicer (
L'Equip 306150 Mini Pulp Ejection Juicer, Gray and was looking for ideas for tasty and healthy combinations. The first recipe, called Bugs Bunny (a carrot-lemon-apple-ginger combo) is great, made even better with a dash of cinnamon. The cleansing/detox combinations also taste good and feel healthy, like the Spring Clean (apple, cucumber, and celery) and the Bright Eyes (mango, berry, and yogurt). Other combinations scare me a bit; I don't know that I'll ever make a juice with broccoli and watercress (the Green Giant) or a smoothie with avocado, cucumber, and milk (the Green Goddess).
An online search will honestly give you ideas for most of the healthful blends, but this book is really great at giving ideas for great kid-friendly and/or grown-up party juice blends. Many of the recipes incorporate sorbet or mineral water for extra pizazz; my kids love the Ruby Tuesday (fresh mango, mango sorbet and raspberries). For grins, there's the Tipplers section. with instructions for everything from the Fresh Colada to a Juicy Gin.
I have a feeling the author and her family had a great time researching and writing this book. With names like Girl Power, Pretty in Pink, and Dress to Impress, each recipe also includes a breezily written paragraph talking about when and how you might best enjoy each beverage.
