About the Author

Cate McCoy is co-founder and President of AlphaPoint Systems, Inc., a computer consulting company. AlphaPoint specializes in custom system development including Lotus Notes Domino, Windows, and relational databases. You can visit AlphaPoint at alphapointsys, their Lotus Notes Domino web site. Cate divides her time between consulting, teaching, and writing. Her authoring credits include course materials for Learning Tree International, computer-based training modules, and countless systems proposals for client prospects. As a trainer, her audience has included professional software developers, undergraduates in Mount Saint Mary's computer science classes, and end-users at General Motors and IBM.

Whether you work on the help desk or are a Lotus Notes user, this book will make your life easier. Easy Lotus Notes R5 shows business users how to do their jobs using Notes without treating them like 'Dummies' or 'Idiots'. Having the book on your bookshelf as a quick reference will save hours in class or on the phone to your technical support team. The savings of buying this book versus sending users to time-consuming training will be easy to calculate.

I work on a tech support team. My users love this book, and I have more time to answer the hard questions. Everyone gets their job done better. Buy this book if you want to stop hearing from your customers - and let them start doing their jobs.

This is a great book, because it meets the objectives very well. It is not a reference book, or a text book for techies, but a quick start guide to basic Lotus Notes R5 use. I was familiar with R4.5, and so could skip through the book very quickly, gleaning useful tips as I went through it all. For new users this is great, and I have pointed many happy user to the book. And, it is in colour, and very well designed, and structured. I have not read many books that meet their objectives so well. Don't buy it for A-Z, but do buy it to use the software in a very short space of time.

This book is excellent for someone who has little or no familiarity with Notes 5. It is full of pictures and descriptions, and is easy to follow. It does a good job of explaining things like mail rules, signatures, and how to navigate the new user interface (GUI).

I purchased this book as a support tool, primarily for new users. It has worked well in that regard, and even veteran Notes 4 users have enjoyed perusing the book for new features.
