Because of my background in both nutrition and cooking, I like teaching my students how to prepare dishes that are healthy and delicious. When I first started cooking with children over twelve years ago, I wanted to make something other than sugary baked goods with them. I researched other cultures' cuisines for fun recipes that incorporate plenty of plant-based ingredients. Some parents were unsure that their picky eaters would enjoy my classes, but I quickly discovered that kids are much more receptive to new foods if they are involved in the meal preparation. My students, as young as two years old, would gobble up all kinds of "grown up" foods including brown rice, sautéed mushrooms, tofu, kidney beans, and caramelized onions!

More About the Author

Julie Negrin, M.S., is a certified nutritionist and cooking instructor. She has been teaching adults and children how to cook for fourteen years. She is the lead kids cooking instructor at Home Cooking New York and teaches for the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE), Natural Gourmet Institute and Stone Barns. Julie spent five years as the Director of Culinary Arts at the JCC in Manhattan where she developed recipes and curricula specifically for children. She has appeared on Sesame Street, CBS Nightly News with Katie Couric, and the Today Show with Al Roker. The recipes in this book truly are Easy Meals to Cook with Kids! My children love seeing the pictures as they go through the pages to select what to make and are able to fully participate in the cooking. I'm not much of a cook myself but these instructions are so easy and yet the meals are substantial enough for the entire family to enjoy! I highly recommend this book for those looking for a kid friendly cookbook that produces family friendly meals. We can't wait to try all of the recipes!

I recently reached a point where I couldn't bear to cook dinner anymore. I had lost my cooking inspiration for my family. This cook book gave me great ideas for new and easy recipes to make with my kids. I love how it specifies which jobs are good for which ages - it makes it really easy to cook with the kids. I let my kids leaf through it and pick something that sounds healthy and yummy!

I have tons of cookbooks but was looking for some inspiration to help get me and the kids excited about the kitchen again. It's so easy to get burned out with daily cooking. Well, this book did the trick. We have celiac disease and there are plenty of gluten free recipes. Some of the ones that aren't gluten free are easily adjustable. The kids like the photos and I like how easy and delicious the recipes are. The Asian veggie rice bowl and Sweet and Sour tofu bites were immediate hits. I have no doubt this cookbook is one our family is going to use again and again.

Julie does a great job shoing us how to get our kids of all ages to help in the kitchen. I love that she gives direcctions for even a 2 year old to help out wtih many of the recipes. She also goes way beyong Macaroni and Cheese, Grilled Cheese and Pizza so grown ups will enjoy the food too and your kids will have a more developed palate. We've only had this cook book a couple weeks and already we're hooked! My daughter (9) and I have so much fun picking out menus and preparing meals together. She enjoys all sorts of different flavors and this is one of the first kid cooking books that doesn't just do kid-friendly foods. We love the variety and simplicity of the recipes. It's great to see my daughter so excited about cooking and eating healthy!
