I've been in search for music like Jeb's for quite a while. This first album was my first to buy of his and I was blown away. The album is somewhat simplistic in contemporary jazz but it all comes together to give a unique sound, jeb's vocals being the icing on the cake. Very smooth, smart lyrics and groove. I highly recommend his music.

Both this album and 'Just What Time It Is' are awesome. I confess that it wasn't love at first earfull with JLNichols, but it sure is now. He hits some magical combination of voice and lyric and rhythm and instrumental that is everything I want in my music: poetic without being sappy, beautifully understated, unpretentious - REAL. He hits me like no artist has for a long time. If Letter to an Angel doesn't make you sway and smile (in that bittersweet sort of way), just end it all now. 'Hold me Strong': amazing! And if 'Not the Only Man' doesn't move you... then I guess you have already ended it! If I knew where to send a letter to THIS angel (Jeb Loy), I would tell him myself.

After hearing "They Don't Know" on a CD sampler, and truly digging Jeb Loy's smooth vocals on that song, I felt I should give the rest of this album a try. I am definitely impressed. While not every track stands out as a "They Don't Know" caliber song, the album is a nice mix of soul, folk, and blues, and runs together well. Jeb Loy's voice, mostly smooth and comfortable to listen to, occasionally comes off with a hint of country twang, which I don't usually care for. Despite that, his music is for the most part not overly complicated, memorable (the kind that sticks in your head throughout the day) and simply downhome-good-cookin-music to mellow out to. My favorite tracks are the openning cut "Letter to an Angel" (where Jeb Loy manages to stretch the word "I" into 8 smooth syllables), "They Don't Know" (the most soulful and catchy track), "The Other Side" (a slow, melancholic song that manages to give me chills), and "Never Coming Back" (an addictive closing track with a nice slow groove). At the end of the album Jeb Loy even goes so far as to thank those people that helped him out along the way. How can you not like this guy? I'm looking forward to discovering more of his music, and I certainly recommend this album.
