5.0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to Paleo and fun recipe layout May 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I'll admit I didn't know much about the Paleo diet before reading this book. In my head it was "lots of meat" which sounded good enough, but not particular healthy. After reading Easy Paleo Recipes I now know that while meat is a big part of the process, it is only a part of the process which is good, because that much meat would give me a stomach ache.

Now, on to the review. The reason I liked this book so much is that, unlike many other diet recipe books, it didn't make me dread the process. I've read my fair share of such books and thought "yeah, I'm not doing that." With the recipes in this book and the way the health benefits were presented, I was motivated and encouraged and have already considered how best to start implementing the changes Sue and Corey layout. That alone got the book five stars. Of course, the recipes are fantastic as well and laying them out in a 30 day plan is perfect because, frankly, that's how I would set a diet anyways. I can create a menu, buy the necessary ingredients in 2-3 day chunks and not worry about it, very important for a major dietary overhaul.

My suggestion is that if you are just learning about the Paleo diet or need a strict plan to help you make the conversion, without feeling deprived of good, filling meals, this is a great place to start.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's called "Easy" for a reason June 7, 2012

I'm not extremely familiar with the Paleo diet. However, I am very knowledgeable in low carb eating plans, and while Paleo isn't touted as low carb, it is very similar.

I also know that many Paleo plans balk at the idea of eating any type of dairy. This book does allow some dairy, but it was written as an easy way to transition into the Paleo diet plan without jumping in full on and possibly feeling deprived.

The "caveman" diet, as some describe this type of eating, can be quite simple and it doesn't take a degree to know that cavemen did not have the foods available that we do today. These people were hunters and gatherers and could only eat what was available in their region/environment. Unless they lived in Hawaii or other tropical area, they did not have access to tropical fruits.

Most environments would only have the basic fruits; apples, plums, berries and probably seeds and nuts.

They would have eaten wild game, like deer, elk, antelope, etc. instead of beef. It's also unlikely that they had access to chickens, but they would have access to wild turkey and other game fowl.

If they ate any type of grain they most likely would have shucked it off the stem and eaten it like seeds. It's doubtful they were grinding corn or wheat.

In our modern age we have access to a lot more variety, so a true "caveman" diet is impossible unless you're living like Grizzly Adams.

In that case, it's highly unlikely that you even know about any kind of modern convenience or diet plans. Today's diet plans, whether it's low carb, low sugar or Paleo are designed for the modern man. This means there will be substitutions and allowances.

One reviewer said these recipes are not really Paleo.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not paleo, unclear December 6, 2012

There is a difference between primal and paleo...
This book is primal. There are a few ( not a lot) recipes with cheese and soy.
Also, some of the directions aren't as clear as they could be.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fun & Unique Diet Approach May 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I love easy diet plans like this one and since I've been hearing more and more about the Paleo method of losing weight, I couldn't wait to get this! I am the type of person that actually needs to have a plan laid out for me and that is why I was drawn to the "30 Days of Meals." It is an easy plan to follow and you definitely will not feel deprived (like many other diet plans). I personally love the slow cooker meal ideas as that is how I prepare the majority of my meals as a busy mom of 3. If you are anything like me and need simple and easy recipes to follow, you will love this book!
