4.0 out of 5 stars Easy Reach Lotion Applicator

I have extremely dry skin and bought this applicator because it seemed to be the answer to applying lotion--especially to my back. Boy, was I disappointed!

The vinyl pad is a great idea, but because the handle is curved, you lose control and can't apply lotion to the middle of your back. The vinyl pad has seams on the outside, and if you're not careful,...

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy Reach Lotion Applicator, September 26, 2007

I bought this Easy Reach applicator by Active Forever as a replacement for the commonly sold one with sponge refill, ribbed end. I picked this one over the type with the floating balls, which you fill with lotion, because I wanted control over how much lotion was dispensed. My objection to the sponge type was that after a few days of applying lotion with it, the sponge became saturated causing the adhesive to loosen and the sponge to fall off. I had bought the sponge refills at a store for about $2 a piece so having one last less than a week was not acceptable. My Easy Reach applicator is superior to the sponge type in all aspects except one. I prefer the feel of the sponge on my skin to this plastic cover, but this plastic is certainly okay. The upsides to this applicator versus the sponge type are:

1. This applicator is about 19 inches long - about 5 inches longer than the other - which is important for the hard to reach parts of the back.

2. Having a non-absorbent applicator means all lotion/ointment gets rubbed into the skin rather than have some fill a sponge.

3. In addition to the handle being longer, the application surface itself is about 5 times bigger and therefore covers a much larger area.

4. It's far cheaper in the long run than continually having to replace the sponge refill.

I find this a better applicator for those 4 reasons. And after using it for several weeks, I am very satisfied with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better Buy, September 3, 2007

This applicator is worth the price. They have many cheaper ones out there, but in the long run, this is the best buy.

1) The surface area is larger and covers more. The pad is about 5 inches long.

2) The handle is 19" long, and sturdy. The cheaper ones are only 12" long and have flimsy handles. It make the middle back easier to reach. This handle will not bend so you can really rub the lotion/creams into your back/legs/feet.

3)The foam is washable and non-absorbent, so you don't need to constantly buy replacement pads.

I have two, one for my lotions and one to apply ointments. I put a spot of color on one handle so I could tell the difference between them. You are able to wash the non-absorbent foam, but I like having a separate applicator for both.

5.0 out of 5 stars GOOD SOLUTION, November 4, 2007

This product did what it advertised. I purchased it to put medicated lotion on my back and it works. Instead of having to deal with pads you apply the lotion directly on the end of the paddle and spread it around. It is lightweight and easy to clean since the application part of the device is vinyl which wipes right off. I would recommend it as a solution for those who live alone or need to be able to self applicate lotion or medication on areas that are impossible to reach on the back. It also has a nice long handle which is a nice plus since you are able to reach all the way down your back with it.

Seemed to work pretty well. It's good for single person esp. if you have to get lotion to the unreachable parts of your back. It is light enough to carry on travels.

I have extremely dry skin and bought this applicator because it seemed to be the answer to applying lotion--especially to my back. Boy, was I disappointed!

The vinyl pad is a great idea, but because the handle is curved, you lose control and can't apply lotion to the middle of your back. The vinyl pad has seams on the outside, and if you're not careful, you'll end up slicing your back because those seams are sharp. The fact that the handle is flimsy also contributes to its general worthlessness.

I don't like the foam applicators, but that's what I'm stuck with because this product is useless.

I order these applicators for my dermatology office for patients to use for applying prescription lotions and other over the counter lotions and creams. Works great for those hard to reach areas on the back. The patients really like the fact that you don't have to replace the pad. Just wash it and reuse it!

I find this a very good product. I am single and cannot reach my back side to put lotion on, but, this does a great job. Sure helps when my back itches due to dry skin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, January 19, 2008
This review is from: Easy Reach Lotion Applicator - A13058 (Health and Beauty)
This works so well I am amazed they aren't being sold everywhere. Thank goodness for Amazon. WOW!! No more winter-dry back, no more summer-dehydrated back. Works very well on the back of my legs and on my feet. Excellant product does exactly what it was designed to do with out any excuses. I love it.

This product is affordable and does a good job of applying lotion to hard-to-reach areas of my back. I agree with some reviewers that it doesn't rub the lotion in that well, but just getting lotion to those areas of my back is wonderful! I am no longer uncomfortably itchy all day. I also like that it rinses off easily. It seems sturdy too.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible...almost painful, November 14, 2008
By

I used this to apply self tanner to my back thinking it would be more efficient than using a towel (which I had been using). Turns out the towel method (the "free" method) is infinitely better. For starters, the foam pad does a horrible job at smoothing out the lotion. It is WAY too smooth and the lack of a frictional surface causes you to have to apply an intense amount of pressure just to be able to rub the lotion. Secondly, and by far the deal breaker in my eyes, the sides of the pads have a tough ridge. When rubbing the lotion along your back you will likely at some point use it at the wrong angle which causes the ridges of the pad to stab areas of your back. This is now only painful but also will leave your back covered in scratches. The handle is sturdy but because it is slightly arched you can't get any pressure on the pad when applying the lotion.

Overall this is a horrible product and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone trying to find a tool to apply lotion to their back with. You are much better off with the tried and true "towel method". Save yourself the pain, the frustration, and the money and avoid this product at all costs.
