Honky Tonk Road Recipes,
By
This review is from: Easy Rv Recipes: Recipes for the Traveling Cook (Cookbooks and Restaurant Guides)
I've been trying for years to convince my wife that we should try rubber tramping, but she will have no part of it. Then, just when I felt I was making progress, she saw this book and all my good work was ruined. Is this what people in RVs really eat?
Many of the recipes call for Velveeta cheese and canned meats. Definitely not her style. Or mine, for that matter. I'm sorry, but some of these just don't look healthy... white bread, processed cheese, bouillon cubes! Yet, I can't help but find this book completely fascinating and want to try some the menu items anyway, things like Nippy Shrimp Toast and Mexican Hamburger Pie. If the above ingredients and recipes sound good to you, I would recommend this book for your RV. The book is loaded with simple recipes using simple ingredients (the author's motto is "never miss a sunset," which sounds good to me), plus general tips on stocking the cupboard, selecting equipment, and menumaking. It's all written with a friendly, experienced voice that hearkens to hours of eating such meals as the sun sets slowly in the Western sky. And if the above sounds like a honky tonk horror show, you might still enjoy this book for its novelty value, as you will see combinations of food you never thought possible!

Really, this book has litle value unless you have never been in a kitchen before. The recipes are simplistic and not very interesting. Look elsewhere to make your traveling kitchen more interesting.

Great for cabin vacation,

I love this cookbook -- it is great for cabin vacations. Recipes are simple which is great for kitchens with no counter space. If the recipe calls for canned meats, you can use canned meats or substitute fresh meat. Lots of tips for menu planning, stocking up on ingredients, etc. A fun cookbook!
