Book Description

March 1, 2007

Solid relationship advice for couples in recovery - delivered with a light touch.

Identifying relationship challenges specific to couples in recovery, and offering advice rooted in recovery principles, the Easy Does It Relationship Guide gently nudges readers to move beyond conflict and create healthier, happier, more intimate relationships. Mary Faulkner, a therapist and popular workshop leader, draws from sound relationship theory and shares stories and insights from couples in recovery. She identifies the five basic topics partners argue about over and over again— money, sex, extended family, children, and time—and offers suggestions for assessing and resolving disagreements. Faulkner also discusses ways to communicate wants and needs without drama, denial, or taking a partner's "inventory." In approach and content, Easy Does It Relationship Guide brims with great advice for all couples. Readers will come to see relationships as a process, always changing, often challenging, and ultimately a source of hope, strength, and joy.

3.0 out of 5 stars An Okay Read for...., July 26, 2007

This book was average, an okay read for those who are just starting out in a committed relationship with another person in recovery. I bought it because I love reading about new ways to improve an already tough situation. Because we already have a diverse palate of "character defects" and "shortcomings", I think any additional help is useful when it comes to the conflicts my significant other and I have. The only downfall to this book that I found, putting aside the high expectations I had prior to my purchase, was that the advice felt geared towards traditional, "normal" relationships. I guess I was looking for something a little more specific for my particular problems, but the solutions and activities suggested for couples to perform can be applied to almost any situation if one tries hard enough. I'd try to borrow it from a friend or scan it in a bookstore before making a purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars great way to break the ice!, December 26, 2011

I am fairly new to healthy relationships and thought this book was a great primer! So much of the info I had heard, but not through these eyes. I think Ms Faulkner must have some excellent recovery experience herself as she really seems to nail scenarios!Take a chance and beef up your skills before you tackle a new relationship or just get some validation for mainataining your current one!

As the girlfriend of the person who i bought this book for I would definately suggest that the girl reads the book first and then lets the boy read it...its pretty typical for men to forget the feeling portion of the book (which a lot of it is) LOL! I hope that this book gives my bf the confidence and security he needs to stick with our relationship while he is in rehab!
