First and foremost, my kids love this album. Second, my wife and I love this album. 23 Skidoo has done with hip-hop what They Might Be Giants did with alternative rock and the result is an album that my kids request by name and I hum at work. He has a feel like LL Cool J, older Dr. Dre, and the great Run DMC. Buy this if you like your ears to defend yourself from the Wiggles or Barney.

I hate children's music. It isn't interesting musically, it's definitely not interesting lyrically, and most of it sounds like folk music your grandma likes. For some reason kids love it though, which means that, as parents, we're stuck listening to it, probably until our kids are teenagers and will then listen to whatever we hate the most.

But I'm giving "Easy" a pass. I can stomach it. It doesn't make me cringe, and when I'm inevitably forced to listen to it on a 14 hour road trip, I might not look for a cliff to drive off. And with children's music, that's HUGE praise. Seriously. Like 5-star praise.

Secret Agent 23 Skidoo sounds a little bit like Chuck D from Public Enemy. Lyrically he's no Chuck D, which is a good thing since I'm not quite ready for my kids to start using Chuck's...creative lexicon. This album is a collection of well-rhymed stories suitable for kids of all ages. The beats are repetitive and simple, which can be a little ear splitting for grown ups, but is perfect for kids. My kids (4 year old twins) love "The Last Dragon" and "Luck" but my personal favorite is "Family Tree" with my favorite rhyme from the album, where 23 Skidoo says "I'm a little bit old school" and his cute-as-a-button daughter Saki says "and I'm a little bit preschool."

This one has been in the player since the day it arrived and I don't see it coming out any time soon. If you're tired of listening to kid-centric (read: annoying to all other forms of life) music, then this might be just what you're looking for.

And if Chuck D and 23 Skidoo team up in the future, maybe my kids will like it when they're old enough. If I pretend to hate it, of course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Music, September 10, 2010
This review is from: Easy (Audio CD)
We saw Secret Agent 23 Skidoo in DC last year and LOVED his show! He was great and my kids were both enjoying the music, rhymes and dancing. This is a great album and so fun to listen to. There are great rhymes going on in it, fun stories (love the Last Dragon) and silly dances (Hot Lava). Definitely recommend it and see his show if you can.

I got this after hearing a couple songs on XM radio. This CD is not your typical farmer-in-the-dell kids' songs. It's original and fun and has good lessons for kids(eating fruit, loving your family, having self-esteem). I do not mind putting this on in the car. Plus, little MC Fireworks (his daughter) is so cute!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique Kid-Hop for Conscious Parents!!, January 25, 2010
This review is from: Easy (Audio CD)
Hey, if you like hip-hop but you don't wanna play Immortal Technique or Ice Cube at your kids' dance party, try this Agent 23 Skidoo album! Advertised as positive hip-hop for kids, it is absolutely the most fun CD I've bought for my kids in a while. You will not be disappointed!

These songs are for kids, but are intelligent enough for adults. They aren't too complicated, but are interesting and convey very good messages, like "you've got to be yourself", "help others" and "family is important" without being insipid. The music mix is good and highly danceable. On long trips I'm always glad when these songs come around in the mix because there are no complaints from anyone in the car.
