I used this Civil War simulations book with my own linguistically and ethnically diverse fifth grade class as well as with a group I was substituting for in the same Title I school. In both instances, this unit was a huge hit. The students were motivated and engaged the entire time and came away with a much deeper understanding of the American Civil War Era.The book is easy to follow (thus the title) and requires little prep time. However, as with any teaching materials, I would recommend pre-reading the day's simulations so you know what to expect.

Absolutely recommend this simulation. I've used it with my 5th graders for the past 3 years and they always love and learn from it. Great way to increase interest by connecting them to the event.
