Book Description

Modern moms are constantly bouncing from place to place. After school activities, work, doctor’s appointments, even daily errands get in the way of the ability to cook a nutritious and tasty meal for the family. The ability to cook just about anything in a slow cooker can alter that imbalance.

Slow cookers are the most overlooked and valuable kitchen appliance in the modern home. Almost everyone has one, but most people don’t realize the versatility of slow cookers. This recipe collection provides just a brief introduction to what these appliances can do. The recipes contain ingredients found in most kitchens, and produce delicious and healthy results.

The goal of feeding a family is providing healthy food that you can feel good about preparing and serving. Processed foods are an easy answer, but their nutrient value is lower, and their sodium content is generally higher than home-cooked meals. This collection strives to provide a wide variety of options using very few processed items. That said, there are some items such as soup stocks and tomato sauce that are used. As a result, I’ve included a brief prologue with some basic recipes for kitchen staples that you can make ahead.

Each recipe was prepared in our test kitchen. Each recipe includes an original picture of the actual recipe that was prepared.

The recipes in this report call for ‘large’ eggs by default, and unless a cooked ingredient is specified, all items are to be incorporated in the raw state. Since this is a family and diet friendly cookbook, none of the recipes use lard, pork, or alcohol. Major allergens such as peanuts and berries are also largely avoided.

Each recipe includes the following sections:

Title
Brief description
Photograph
Number of Servings
Prep Time
Cooking Time
Ingredients
Instructions
Nutritional Information
Cooking tips [where appropriate]

Relax for a while. Read a book, watch a TV show, go for a walk; good food doesn’t have to make you a slave to your kitchen!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wide variety of crock pot/slow cooker recipes December 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Crock pot recipes are very popular, because one can "set it and forget it." This cookbook has the basics (vegetable, chicken, and beef stock, as well as tomato/marinara sauce), as well as recipes for appetizers, soups and stews, vegetarian dishes, poultry, beef and lamb, seafood, and even desserts. Recipes include prep time, cooking time, nutritional information, and cooking tips. There's a variety of recipes for every taste!

4.0 out of 5 stars It's the little stuff that counts December 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
What I love about these recipes is the little touches that make the meal something special. Rich food that is a real treat. For some reason I am fascinated by the Russian Borsch and have to give it a go. "Rich meaty stew." Ok, I'm game!

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious Slow Cooker Recipes! January 6, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Easy Slow Cooker Recipes book is just what it says: EASY recipes. What it doesn't say is that the recipes are delicious as well. Sometimes I'm in a hurry and love to have slow cooker recipes on hand so that I know that my family will be well fed that night. But regardless if my day is hectic or not, I want good recipes and this book is packed full. I love the fact that also included are things that can be done ahead of time so that prep time is reduced even further.

Easy Slow Cooker Recipes for Busy Moms is an excellent recipe book for anyone (!) looking to make great meals, including this grandma! I highly recommend!

3.0 out of 5 stars These busy moms must not work for a living June 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
All of these slow cooker recipes are for two or three hour cook times. Not a single recipe in this book can be put into the pot before work to be ready for dinner. If I'd have paid any money the book would get 1 star. Since it was free, three stars is the most I can justify.

1.0 out of 5 stars Meh. January 28, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Nothing about any of these recipes would lead one to think that they are "easy recipes for busy moms". Way too many ingredients and very old fashioned, I probably found one recipe in this book that I'd actually make and that my kids might eat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pictures and Nutritional Value listed for EVERY recipe January 9, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I didn't try any of the actual recipes, so I'll not be able to tell you if any of them are actually fantastic or not, BUT what I can tell you is there is a picture for EVERY recipe as well as nutritional values. The ingredients are listed clearly, the instructions seem to make sense (I did read them and nothing seemed wrong or inconsistent) and the author even includes cooking tips to help make the recipe even more successful.

I did see a few recipes that look appealing to me ~ Such as the Chicken Enchiladas & The Stuffed Cabbage ~ I never thought of using my crock pot to make either of these and think that I may actually give these two recipes a try.

4.0 out of 5 stars New recipes January 9, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
One of my favorite desserts is rice pudding. I did a quick browse of this book and the last recipe is rice pudding in the crock pot. Made it and it was delish! Several other recipes look great. Can't wait to try them.
