5.0 out of 5 stars Mellow out with this music.., May 27, 2000
This review is from: Easy Street (Audio CD)
I discovered Eric Marienthal by accident. While visiting my children in southern Spain, I was left on my own, and decided to read awhile and listen to music. It was a soft sunny day, and I wanted something relaxing but soulful to reflect my "on vaction" mood. I did not recognize any of the CD's these 30-something kids owned (I listen to George Winston, and/or Classical quartet and quintet music by Shubert, Mozart, et al.--they don't).

I decided to listen to this CD because the fellow playing the Sax looks like my son. When I played the darn thing I liked it. In fact I liked it so much when I got back to the states I bought it plus 6 more CD's by the same artist.

When I want to "expand" feelings of contentment I listen to this CD. Some pieces are mellow and others a peppy but none of them blast you out of your easy chair. Also, I can cook or read while I listen to the music...but, it isn't Musak, it has character. Sometimes, I just listen to it.

In a way it reminds me a little of the music used in the tv series "Moonlighting" probably because of the instruments, sax, piano, soft drums and snares, and the occasional soft vocal. Marienthal has a distinct "sound" however. This boy plays a nice Sax.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funky and Fine Music!!!!!!, August 9, 2006

This review is from: Easy Street (Audio CD)
This is one of the hottest albums I've ever heard from anyone in the jazz world today! The opening cut "Easy Street" is a soulful treat with an R & B flavor. Eric's sax is right out front in "Tuesday's Delight". "New Jack Saturday" is a cooker! "Glow" smolders with passion. "Half & Half" is a funky trip that you don't want to end! There is nothing finer than hearing Eric play the ballad "Bourriquot". "Secret Passage" has its own sensuous feel with a soulful mix.

Eric Marienthal is comfortable playing smooth jazz, R & B, or classic jazz. His talent is far beyond his peers of today. The respect that he has received from the music community speaks for itself. He has played with Chick Corea, David Benoit, Lee Ritenour, George Kahn, The Rippingtons, Keiko Matsui, Anita Baker, and other renowned artists of today. An internationally respected talent, Eric has successfully toured the U.S., Europe, and Asia with great admiration of his talent. He crosses all cultures with his interpretations. Start with this one and sample his other cds as well for the proof!

Although not his newest music this should be a mainstay for anyone who

loves jazz. I figure I will be wearing this cd out from so much play.

Amazing music.
